Workers own nothing the state controls everything supposedly in their name but thats the big lie of socialismThat is your personal definition of socialism, not mine.
Your definition is a common description, but it is actually a frequent misconception. Socialists define socialism as the social or collective ownership of the means of production, rather than total control by the government. [1, 2, 3]
Understanding the distinctions reveals more about how the system operates:
For a deeper dive into economic philosophies, you can review the Britannica Article on Socialism o
- Worker and Public Ownership: Instead of corporate executives or private owners holding power, socialists advocate for assets, industries, and resources to be owned or managed by the workers, communities, or the public.
- Democratic vs. Authoritarian Management: In theory, socialism emphasizes democratic management of the economy by the people themselves rather than top-down control by a central government apparatus.
- Economic Systems: Total government control of economic activity is technically known as a command economy. This model has been historically associated with certain states (like the former Soviet Union), but it represents a specific, centralized subset of socialism rather than the definition of the concept as a whole.
- Social Democracy: Many modern socialist movements—such as the models used in Nordic countries—do not seek to eliminate private enterprise entirely. Instead, they focus on using government policies to heavily regulate the market and provide robust public services like healthcare, education, and pensions. [1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9]
Only in capitalism do people control the market by choosing to buy or not buy a product. This ofrces business to please them. In socialism the state is in control there is no competition so if you dont like it screw you.
Socialism has faled 100% of the time leading to poverty and oppression and two class socity the rulers and the oppressed.
The other big lie is when a person gets rich it makes another poor. This is called a zero sum model. The fact is when a person gets rich we all have more opportunity. When the government gets rich as in socialism we all get poor because they takes our money.
