There is endless roars on this forum about how evil social democracy is... I just wanted to compare what modern day Western European Democracy looks like and what Social Democracy looks like...

First I just want to make it clear, Social Democracy is not Democratic Socialism. Social Democracy is about regulating Companies for the overall good for society, the idea is the Citizen comes first in society not corporations and profit.. So workers rights and pollution concerns are more important than corporate wishes... Europe learnt this the hard way in the 70s where they polluted large areas and have since been reclaiming that back.

Turns out people want the Government working for them. They are starting to understand that voting for someone who says Government doesn't work, leads to government that doesn't work.

They can see Governments in places like Western Europe working.

UK has an 7.7% higher but for that they get free healthcare, working public transport, way better roads, almost free third level education, a proper social safety net, way better air and water quality.....
US has far more natural resources and space for a growing workable.

Some are saying, if we take the rich to the level they are taxed in Europe, the tax burden could be at Germany level without effecting.

95% of the tax base... no raises in taxes...

For the top 5% of earners, the effective tax rate (including income taxes and social contributions) is approximately 30% to 35% in the US and roughly 45% to 50% in Germany. Germany has a significantly heavier tax burden and steeper progressivity across all high-income brackets. [1, 2, 3, 4, 5]

Lets' do the numbers...
So if the top 5% paid taxes at the level of Germany.
I am only doing this on Federal for the moment and in brackets I am using today's rates as effected by inflation

That 76% of the taxes collected getting a 15% increase in line with Germany. This is everyone earning over $173,000($209,000). So it would be starting at around $160,00 ($180,000 today) tax bracket... So you only pay the extra after that.

So for that you get
  • Free or very affordable Healthcare
  • Working public transport which is a game changer in economic movement
  • Way better roads,
  • Free third level education,
  • a proper social safety net,
  • way better air and water quality
  • Lower Crime rate (United States homicide rate is roughly 5 to 6 times higher than Germany's)
  • many other things...
You have a right to disagree, no problem.. But it is a reasonable proposal, I don't think villainising people who are asking the question of why not, is any way productive.
US has some very bad metrics by first world standard:
  • One of the highest infant mortality rate in first world (US 5.1 v Germany 3.1)
  • Highest incarceration rate in first world ( US puts there own citizens in prison at 7-8 times the rate of Germany)
  • US Police kill their own citizens far higher (40 times the rate in Germany)
This is not about villainising one side or the other... This is about amateur discussion that compares how the the wealthy in both sides contribute.

The European view is that wealth and accumulation of wealth gets major advantages in the first world, lack of corruption, security, educated work force, large consumer base... This has to be paid for and the people doing the best of it pay.

Can I point out calling anyone Marxist or Communist when discussing Social Democracy is just exposing your complete ignorance. So please don't, it makes you sound like a 5 year old..
Social Democracy is different to those...

By the way, I am showing that Germany and Western Europe have stats which some Americans might prefer... The top 10% pay for services (like Germany & EU) that they benefit.

Social democracy makes America great.
Well the case is there...

UK was trying to move away from Social Democracy with the vote on Brexit...

Look what it looks like now...

This is clear, UK wants to end their rejection of Social Democracy and go back... They were simply lied too and they believed the leavers... It has been an unmitigated financial disaster which has directly effected UK citizens in a negative way...
The funny thing is no one can find any meaningful positive. The laws that they wanted control over were worsened, made to serve corporations and rich more than the people.
UK has had a decade of political turmoil with no assurance to their businesses that the rules today will be the same tomorrow. This has killed small business.. Local Authorities are bankrupt and Government doesn't have money to help them out, you can see it in the deterioration of paths, roads....
But don't worry, all indications that UK are coming back. Starmer maybe a pretty bad PM but any numbers would show that joining the EU would boost the economy by 10% over normal growth over 5 years... Hard to blow it with that win.

The grass is always greener....
This is why we say it should be considered and not dismissed.

How many people here roar Marxism and Communism as a fear mongering technique...

Please using statistics explain where EU is getting much wronger... The pay scales thing is lower in Europe but a person on an average median wage in Europe has higher disposable income if Health Insurance is taken into account.

Youre advocating socialism and trying to cover it up with terms. Europe is in decline because of their social spending over regulation of business and renewable energy. The NHS in the UK is collapsing. They pay more in taxes, have lower median living standard and have poor healthcare. Manufacturing is fleeing and coming to America. Socialism no matter hiw you try and hide it always fails

Europe is experiencing an accelerating wave of deindustrialization, with over a million manufacturing jobs lost in recent years. High energy costs, stringent regulations, and fierce global competition have forced energy-intensive sectors (e.g., chemicals, automotive, and metals) to close or relocate factories to regions with cheaper, more stable production climates.
ETUC | European Trade Union Confederation +3
Core Drivers of the Exodus

  • Structural Energy Costs:The loss of cheap Russian pipeline gas left Europe dependent on more expensive liquefied natural gas (LNG). Western Europe, in particular, faces structurally higher power prices than global competitors, leading to a massive divide in industrial output.
    YouTube·Dark Span +1
  • Strict Regulatory Burden:Policies like the Corporate Sustainability Due Diligence Directive (CSDDD) and aggressive carbon pricing (ETS) have created high operational costs, encouraging companies to scale back or redirect investments abroad.
    Exxon Mobil Corporation +2
  • Global Competition & Subsidies:The U.S. Inflation Reduction Act (IRA) and China's massive state-backed manufacturing capacity and subsidies have drawn both capital and production capacity out of Europe.
    YouTube·Dark Span +4
Most Impacted Industries & Regions
  • Automotive:Major legacy automakers like Volkswagen have initiated massive cost-cutting, restructuring, and job elimination programs, struggling with declining sales and aggressive EV competition from Chinese brands.
    www.politico.eu +1
  • Chemicals & Metallurgy:Energy-intensive sectors have been hit the hardest. Companies continue to scale back European production in favor of U.S. or Asian hubs where energy and regulatory overheads are lower.
    YouTube·Dark Span +4
  • Germany & France:Historically the industrial engines of the EU, these nations have seen extensive factory shutdowns (e.g., Michelin in France) and historic levels of corporate bankruptcies, severely impacting their local workforces.
    www.politico.eu +1
The Path Forward
To stop the bleeding, European policymakers are urgently looking at reforms. The European Commission is attempting to balance its ambitious European Green Deal with accelerated industrial policies aimed at lowering administrative burdens, streamlining clean energy permits, and heavily investing in local AI & Digitalization to boost competitiveness.

The UK’s National Health Service is widely described as being in its deepest crisis in history. While the system has narrowly avoided total failure—such as teetering on the brink of collapse during the Covid-19 pandemic—it faces systemic challenges that leave millions waiting for care.
NBC News +2
The crisis within the health service is driven by several interlocking problems:
1. Chronic Underfunding and Wait Times

  • Long Lists:Millions of people in England are on waiting lists for routine elective treatments, causing significant delays from initial GP visits to specialist appointments.
    YouTube·Doctor Khalid +1
  • A&E Delays:Emergency room waiting times have surged significantly compared to historical averages, frequently missing targets for timely treatment.
    The New York Times +1
2. Workforce Shortages and Burnout
  • Staff Exodus: The health service is experiencing a significant loss of nurses, paramedics, and doctors.
  • Burnout:Staffing shortages have resulted in massive workloads, with many employees reporting burnout, wage stagnation, and difficult working conditions, leading some to seek opportunities abroad.
    YouTube·Doctor Khalid
3. The Social Care Bottleneck
  • Bed Blocking:A major factor in emergency room delays is the crisis in social care. Older or vulnerable patients who are medically cleared to leave the hospital are often stranded in beds because there is a lack of community social care to support them at home.
    YouTube·Doctor Khalid +3
4. Systemic Reforms
  • Reorganization:The UK government has taken steps toward radical reform of the service's management, such as abolishing NHS England to reduce duplication and bring healthcare oversight under direct democratic control.

False they have less because they pay more in taxes and have 15% sales tax on everything

The Euros have a larger population than America but only about 2/3 the GDP

So collectivism is not all good

Pollution was not to be reduced until it became more affordable to do so, and the people had more money in their pockets. You do not see India and China at the forefront of that, and our production is dwarfed by theirs. You guys smear and assault anyone who disagrees with you for one iota while chastising them if they do not fight yet have no guts to go to those nations and have face to face chats with them. Why? They will kill you or worse.

You fools just never understand that when you give government too much control to run everything, government makes it so that there is no escape from that control and it rules with an iron fist. If you get too close to a black hole it just sucks you in. And, that control makes it so that you get very comfortable just sitting back and doing nothing and letting Big Brother take care of you. You depend on it to completely run your lives.

Just admit you are all Socialists, Simp.

Trying to redefine words isn’t working.

Move to Germany,

No problem...

EU has been transferring over to services economy for decades...

EU understands that China has the advantage in manufacturing and has had its for 20 years... They don't have it in service economy...

Europeans look at US looking at wanting manufacturing jobs back and scratch their heads... Manufacturing jobs are low paid and uncompetitive... Any saying their economy is going to be based on low or middle tier manufacturing jobs are just delusional... High end like Medical devices can still be in Europe due to the high tolerances that have to be maintained but US manufacturing is very limited in that game.

UK economy has been suffering since leaving EU, what do you expect..

The Euros have a larger population than America but only about 2/3 the GDP

So collectivism is not all good
GDP can be very deceptive as a measure of production...

Look at Ireland... Look at there GDP growth in last 10 years, seriously even Irish Prime Minister laughed at that growth and said that is not happening...

A lot of money is booked outside EU...

Any way, you are trying to say US is better because ye work harder... ie. you libve to work
EU motto is that you work to live...

Inequality of life and happiness EU wins that...

Why do you want less holidays, longer hours work?

Pollution was not to be reduced until it became more affordable to do so, and the people had more money in their pockets. You do not see India and China at the forefront of that, and our production is dwarfed by theirs. You guys smear and assault anyone who disagrees with you for one iota while chastising them if they do not fight yet have no guts to go to those nations and have face to face chats with them. Why? They will kill you or worse.
Dude, take a chill pill...

China is a far less polluter per capita than US

Be hey, doing better than Canada and Australia... It isn't a competition, it about us all doing our bit.

But US used to be really bad, but in fairness it was improving under Biden... It was very good for the economy as well... Wind is considerably cheaper than fossil fuels right now...

15th post
Social democracy needs a broad tax base. In America 50% pay no federal taxes. In Europe there is a high national VAT (or sales tax) in every single country. Income tax brackets for middle earners are considerably higher. And the rich are not taxed they way Sanders, Mamdani and AOC are asking for. For example, Sweden has no wealth, inheritance and gift taxes. Only three European countries levy a wealth tax: Spain, Switzerland and Norway. In Switzerland it is collected at local level, not by the federal government, and rates are low. The Norwegian tax is quite new, controversial, and the center-right oppostion has pledged to repeal it once they return to government. Sanders wants to expropriate and decapitalize billionaires (and their businesses) with a 5% annual federal wealth tax. They openly say that there should be no billionaires.

Tax the rich (and only the rich) to fix the budget crisis is demagoguery. But many people buy it. It is "tax others, not me" taken to the extreme.

Funny how you believe what the Chicoms tell you.

Since 2000 the US has dropped emissions 34%, meanwhile your Chicom handlers have increased theirs 224%.

Next?

Dimtards say we need to be more like Europe, but they are #1 on the polluter list.
