Judge dismisses criminal charges against Kilmar Abrego Garcia in human trafficking case

A federal judge in Tennessee dismissed the criminal charges against Kilmar Abrego Garcia on Friday, finding that the investigation into his alleged involvement with human trafficking was “tainted.”

He said the probe was only launched to justify the government’s decision to remove him to El Salvador.

“The objective evidence here shows that, absent Abrego’s successful lawsuit challenging his removal to El Salvador, the Government would not have brought this prosecution,” U.S. District Judge Waverly Crenshaw wrote in his decision.

The legal term for what trump's DoJ did to Garcia is vindictive prosecution. As AG, both Pam Bondi and acting AG Todd Blanche should have resigned rather than obey a directive from trump to prosecute Garcia in an obvious act of politically motivated retribution.

trump devotees on the board know this to be true. They know this is not the only case when our formerly admired system of justice has been perverted for trump's purposes. They should know, but likely don't, there is an established track record of this sort of thing by trump.

Chronology of a Dozen Times Trump Pushed to Prosecute His Perceived Enemies

The cascade of election coverage, commentary and speculation about how Donald Trump might use the power of the presidency to retaliate against his perceived political enemies has overlooked important context: Trump has done just that, while he was president, at least a dozen times.

What follows is a chronological list of specific instances in which the former president in fact used the Department of Justice and other levers of government power — including by directly, publicly or privately, pressuring officials — to target his chosen political adversaries. The record includes several cases in which he apparently succeeded more than might be imagined or remembered.

How do you folks sleep at night knowing about trump's stunning lack of character enabled and reinforced by your vote?

The US is now officially screwed.

It is for the time being. The salient question is............can we take it back from trumpery and if so how long will it take?

Of note, there are the beginnings of some encouraging signs from R's with respect to the slush fund, the war, and the ballroom. Long since overdue and not nearly the pushback on a broad array of topics we should be seeing but it's a start.

One way, and only one way. To change the electoral system.

Under the current system everyone knows how to manipulate it. I doubt there's ever going to be consensus between both parties of how to stop this happening in the future.

The DoJ went after a woman in Minnesota. Claims she stole $242 million in money intended for starving children. She was sentenced to 41 years in prison.

Clearly a political hit job. She should be entitled to $242 million in damages,

Just as an example of how the fund will pay out.

The structural advantages the R's have in the EC and Senate are well known. And they have lead to the egregious abuses of power we are seeing on everything from the SC violating precedent at will to the anti-democratic gerrymandering spree caused by trump's attempt to maintain control of Congress. I'm not hopeful anything can or will be done about it.

And the problem with a two party system is total lack of oversight by the voters, a lack of choice, and money buys slim margins which wouldn't be possible with Proportional Representation.

The entire 1.77 billion dollars

Well, that's not going to happen. I'd love to see the court order trump to personally apologize to Garcia. But that won't happen either.

First, the kinds of issues we examine here are related to concerns that a president may also abuse his or her authority by relieving friends and allies from accountability in the justice system. We do not discuss such cases here, but it should be recalled that Trump’s time in office included extraordinary interventions to save Paul Manafort from conditions of confinement, the lighter sentencing of Roger Stone (with federal prosecutors resigning in protest), and dropping the prosecution of Michael Flynn. Along these lines, one might also include pardons and commutations of sentences for individuals such as Steve Bannon, Jared Kushner’s father Charles Kushner, Stone, Manafort, Flynn; and more (not to mention the dangling of pardons).
