Would you let your child get a tattoo?

TWO many people think their personal wants are the only important wants.
Back when I was a kid, same kind of people thought pierced ears where nasty & should be banned.
Do not care for much tattooing, Only because we change our minds often. and removal costs in dollars and looks.
Maybe encourage young people too try a few temp ones see how quick they get tired of them.

Pierced ears are not an issue. If the person changes his mind, he can just let the tissue grow back and they are gone.

My son got a stupid tattoo on his back when he was about 16, unknown to his parental units. When I saw it I just said, "That was stupid, but you will have to live with it." At 42, I think he now agrees, and he is reluctant to go out in public shirtless.

If the child is under the age of majority the decision rests with their guardian.

Yeah, but I trust the law better than a parents' judgement and legally I don't think that it's a good idea.

Depends. Do the parents have tattoos? After all, parents are the role models for their children. I was 9 or 10 when I saw my (divorced) dad plant a big kiss on his girlfriend. I was excited and knew that I would follow his example someday. :p

My oldest has a lot of tattoos. Her kids are all adults and none of them has ANY tattoos.

My daughter got a tattoo across her lower back when that was all the rage. My son avoided the tattoo thing. It's an 'identity' thing. If people need to make their bodies a billboard for their identity, have at it.

I am surprised to see you say that because your avatar photo looks like someone (who I thoroughly dislike for an unrelated reason) who has a lot of tattoos.

I thought about getting a tattoo when I was in my 20's but could never get over the idea that I couldn't change my mind about it later.

One of the Bay Street law firms I worked for had a dress code which included "no visible tattoos", but that wasn't anything I had ever thought about when I was younger. Over the years, I've heard a lot of people express ideas like they would never hire anyone with a visible tattoo, facial piercings, neck tattoo, or other "body art".

I don't know how many of these restrictions survive today. I've now been retired for 10 years and boy have things changed.

I was born and spent a large portion of my life in conservative Houston. Met the wife in Austin and went to this movie theater called Alamo Drafthouse. It was a sit down eatery and movie theater. our server had tats and metal all over his face. I was just absolutely dumbfounded, like seeing a Martian serving me pizza. Years later the Daughter has ten thousand earrings on every day. Life is weird.

Small town Ontario. I started going to Toronto when my BF and my BFF, both of whom were a year older than me, both went to Toronto after graduating high school. I was going to spend weekends in Toronto with them. We hung out in Yorkville.

It was I told my Mom all about this amazing street where Joni Mitchell, and Gordon Lightfoot were playing at the Riverboat. The Sparrow were the house band at the Myna Bird. They moved to New York and changed their name to Steppenwolf. And it was all kids hanging out there.

Then then came the riots and Yorkville was all over the TV News - drugs, sex and rock 'n roll!!! I was so grounded.
