Would you let your child get a tattoo?

We hung out in Yorkville. And it was all kids hanging out there. It was I told my Mom all about this amazing street where Joni Mitchell, and Gordon Lightfoot were playing. Then came the riots and Yorkville was all over the TV News - drugs, sex and rock 'n roll!!! I was so grounded.
I bet you were feelin' nearly as faded as your jeans.

I never would have allowed my kids to get a tatoo if they had wanted one. They are both grown adults now and neither have tatoos. No parent should allow their kid to have a tattoo. They aren't mature enough label themselves permanently like that.

I thought about getting a tattoo when I was in my 20's but could never get over the idea that I couldn't change my mind about it later.

One of the Bay Street law firms I worked for had a dress code which included "no visible tattoos", but that wasn't anything I had ever thought about when I was younger. Over the years, I've heard a lot of people express ideas like they would never hire anyone with a visible tattoo, facial piercings, neck tattoo, or other "body art".

I don't know how many of these restrictions survive today. I've now been retired for 10 years and boy have things changed.
Back in the day tattoos were a counterculture thing.

When they move out they're on their own. Until then, my rules.

For me the answer is an obvious NO. Until a child becomes eighteen they shouldn't be in charge of what they do to their own bodies. Whether it be puberty blockers or tattoos.

Parental consent below 18.

Just the way it is now, BTW.

I can see the day when a parent allows their child to get a tattoo, then the child regrets it later and sues the parents.
Key words: Child. Define it.
Parent: Define it.

Here in Sweden it is illegal for a person under a certain age to get a tattoo without parental consent. In the example you've given I understand what you mean. I wonder in the countries where "children" can get a sex change against parental consent who will be sued if the transy regrets it and if both the child and the parents can sue?

Remember the exposed thong phad in the 90's? To me it went too far when in the end they were marketing them to children

I can't find the pics of kids wearing this but I remember they specifically started marketing whale tails to minors. That was hit. Never heard from them again. Do they still sell them?
What's a whale tail?

Tats are trashy. Marking up your body makes you look like cheap trash. That's my perception.

My brother is 16 and wants to get one. My parents are trying to use reverse psychology with him by acting nonchalant. They know when they say know, then he seeks something out more. We'll see if it works.

I can't believe I wrote all that. Was I drunk?

Whale tail is the Y-shaped rear portion of a thong or G-string when visible above the waistline of low-rise pants, shorts, or skirts that resembles a whale's

No. Children shouldn't be allowed to get tattoos. I don't like Tattoos, I think they give the impression that a person is trashy, in most cases.

Over here females are particularly vulnerable to magazine pages. I'd say that 80% of the female population between 21 and 50 all have botox lips, silly-cone titties. plucked eyebrows, plastic fingernails, false eyelashes, a mobile telephone in one hand and a take-away coffee in the other ....... and of course several tattoos. Yuck!!!

Yuck indeed!

I'm with you 100%.

I think those temporary water tattoo things are a good idea. Mom and dad should say, "You want us to approve of you getting a tattoo? OK, here's what you need to do. Decide on a design and have it put on you as one of those temp tats. As soon as it starts to fade you must get the exact same one, in the exact same place. If you can keep up with that for one year then I'll give you my consent".

Depends. Do the parents have tattoos? After all, parents are the role models for their children. I was 9 or 10 when I saw my (divorced) dad plant a big kiss on his girlfriend. I was excited and knew that I would follow his example someday. :p
I bet your father wasn’t happy with you when you started planting big kisses on his girlfriend!

I don’t get the logic there.

With real tattoos you don’t have to keep spending money and applying them for a year.

You get it, you pay, and you’re done forever

I don’t see what the lesson is here

The lesson here is that you’re not stuck forever with some picture you had drawn on your body when you were young and stupid.
