I know you’ve all been waiting for my opinion, so here it is. I’ll be 78 in a couple of months and I’ve seen a lot of shit, heard a lot of crap, and witnessed a lot of degrading ridicule.

Mr. Natural says:

.... you know it’s bound to become a thing
… and what are we talking about? Here it is in the OP:

tattoo.webp

I know most of you Americans are gong to deny it but once a few of your neighbours start sticking that shitty flag on their porch the rest of you will pretty much be compelled to do the same. Why? The same reason Mr. Natural is right when he made that comment of his. If you don’t do it everyone will be calling you a communist or anti-American.

Because the story says the parents brought the girl in themselves for her to get the tattoo

Did you even read the article?
They drive her there.

Okay, not a christmas present from her navy veteran grandfather.

Looks like we need the federal government to protect our children from their parents

California law is 18
It begs the question with all this Freedom malarkey, how America is so free and all that bollox -

At what age does this Freedom start?

You feeble attempts at slagging America are a joke.

Since the nation was founded, children have never been considered anything other than the ward of parents.

Obviously, when they reach the age of majority, they then receive full benefits and responsibilities of a citizen.

So just like everywhere else.

Agreed.

But you knew that when you started trolling.
Well, this Freedom crap is........crap. Being told you're Free doesn't make you Free.

One day, touch wood, you guys will realise and admit it.

What age is the age of majority? When you buy a beer, father a child, join the army?

Do you keep and like the same wallpaper, paint colour, or picture on your living room wall? So why have a permanent picture etched into your body?

Wouldn’t that depend on the nature of the freedom we speak of.

I’m not free to swing my arms wildly within striking distance of others. I’m not free to murder anyone. I’m not free to vote if I’m not a citizen here.

Those perfectly rational societal limits on my freedom aren’t the kinds of “freedom” under discussion.

But I am free, for example, to speak my mind about almost any topic.

There's a freedom index, the indices were contributed by various nations, the US was one such contributor. Speaking ones mind / free speech / freedom of expression is fine, but where people fall foul is the way they do it and say it, hence libel and slander laws. With speech comes responsibility.

A baby!? Seriously!? 😮

So why did you vote yes in my poll then? Should kids be allowed or shouldn't they?
Your poll said would you let your child get one.. i voted yes.

thread title was should a child be allowed to get one..

That’s not the same question. Should have been better options on the poll.

yes, i would let my son get one from 15 up if he really wanted one and it was not crazy shit. Luckily he isn’t interested. Should be a parental decision.

Libel and slander laws don’t really limit free speech. If you ruin Joe’s reputation with some malicious false claim about him, he could lose his business. You have no right to do that to someone unless you are right about your claim.

Ok, your neighbour exercises their free speech by advertising you are a paedophile, verbally and in the local information leaflet, the community is not happy with you. Do you say to the angry crowd, "I support his free speech and I'm not doing anything about it".

No. In fact, what I just posted would have already answered your question. If I didn’t punch his lights out, I’d sue him.

So there you go, you sue him. Will he and others think twice making that mistake again?

If he took responsibility with what he was going to say, you wouldn't have to sue him. It's like Americans think Free Speech just means talk whatever shit you want.

You contradict yourself.

I understand that our free speech prevents our government from censoring me on matters of political opinion. Most Americans understand that and even take it for granted. That doesn’t mean we’re free to advocate for the violent overthrow of our government. Nor may we reveal troop movements in time of war. Joe may we deliberately defame others via false accusations.

Nor do most of us imagine anything to the contrary.

For me the answer is an obvious NO. Until a child becomes eighteen they shouldn't be in charge of what they do to their own bodies. Whether it be puberty blockers or tattoos.

I see, so yer child would need to be eighteen to be circumcised.
