On the other hand, "Joe the plumber" is not a licensed plumber. He's not even a licensed journeyman or plumber's apprentice. His name isn't even Joe, it's Samuel. But it isn't "Sam 6-Pack" that Gov. Sarah Palin has been referring to. And everything has to fit nicely into the political package to sell on Election Day.
According to Salary.com, the median expected salary for plumbers is $37,514. Based on that figure, the average plumber who is a single father with one dependent child (as Wurzelbacher is, except for that whole plumber part...) would get around 20 percent more under Obama's tax plan than that same person would get under McCain.
In fact, according to the conservative Wall Street Journal, "With income and profits, Mr. Wurzelbacher would be nowhere close to the threshold of $200,000 for individuals and $250,000 for couples for Sen. Obama's proposed tax increase. To reach that level ... a mom-and-pop plumbing company like Newell would have to clear $5 million in annual sales." The two-person shop isn't anywhere near that league, not by a Texas mile; make that not by ten Texas miles.
