It has been suggested that materialism is the only motivator of people. That's sad, but I think not a completely untrue characterization of American beliefs. This coming from American conservatives no less.Do you find that material gains are spiritual?
Are you asking me? If so, no, I do not find material possessions spiritual, but I do find them essential for life. It is hard to be spiritually fulfilled though when you are starving, homeless, without a means of transportation, etc.
Only if you can find 1 example of a Democrat that claimed Venezuela is an example to aspire to. Otherwise you are using a straw man argument. When Bernie or Ocassio-Cortez speak they call themselves social Democrats and they aspire to the systems that are applied in other Social Democracies. Citing the disaster of Venezuela as an example of the failure of a system the Democrats aspire to is a straw man. And now if you are honest this reply to the thread should be over.
Maybe so, but if talking in the full expectancy that people won't listen scared me, I wouldn't spend my Saturday night on a forum like this lol.You can't just use the terms like they are interchangeable.
Have you ever met a Republican? Good luck.
SS is the perfect analogy of why socialism sucks. How many of those old white conservatives use social security? We already have socialist programs, and they do what they're supposed to. We have to stop using the word socialism. People are too dumb to get over the stigma that has been attached to it by the propaganda machine. It's a buzzword that automatically shuts down the conversation. They hear it and their brains turn off.

You and your employers pay in for your entire life to a government program that is purposely designed to pay you nothing in return. They dictate when you can receive benefits and do their best to make sure that age is pretty much when you are expected to die. If you do somehow outlive the rules? You get a token payout for a little while that’s nowhere near enough to live on.
That’s pretty much the core of socialism don’t you think?
Republicans are doing deals like Foxconn. The government giving tax dollars to a huge foreign company to get them to move to a place of the governments choosing. Yeah, sounds like repubs like socialism. It makes it so much easier to distinguish between the two major political parties when the crazy democrat left finally quits the smoke and mirrors and comes out of the socialist political closet. Live with it and embrace it while you can lefties because the democrat party ain't likely to be around much longer at this rate.
Great! Is Venezuela the only example of socialism? Can you think of any others?Venezuela crisis: How did we get here?

Oh no the left this and oh no the right this...lame all of you are.
In the 1990s Swedes began to realize what socialism and statism were doing to the quality of life in their country. As a result, they elected Sweden’s first conservative government since the end of World War II. Knowing precisely what needed to be done to pull their nation back from the abyss of economic ruin, Sweden’s new conservative government quickly went to work cutting taxes on businesses and individuals. Things began to change for the better almost immediately. Consider the following improvements Sweden has enjoyed since beginning the long, hard road back from socialism and statism (data provided by the NCPA):Great! Is Venezuela the only example of socialism? I think it's fair to look at depression, drug addiction and suicide rates in this country and wonder about that. It's hard to imagine why so many Americans are unhappy. It has been suggested that materialism is the only motivator of people. That's sad, but I think not a completely untrue characterization of American beliefs. This coming from American conservatives no less.
Your answer appears to be "it was, but it's moving away from it". Is that fair?In the 1990s Swedes began to realize what socialism and statism were doing to the quality of life in their country. As a result, they elected Sweden’s first conservative government since the end of World War II. Between 1993 and 2010, Sweden’s GDP growth exceeded that of the rest of Europe by one full percentage point. Further, by 2010 public debt had dropped to 37 percent of GDP and taxes on businesses had been decreased to 22 percent (compare this with the 36 percent rate in the United States).
Sweden’s political leaders transformed the nation’s retirement pension system from a defined-benefit system into a defined contribution system, thereby saving it from inevitable insolvency.
The Swedish Fiscal Policy Council was established and empowered to independently monitor and evaluate government fiscal policy. The Council’s most current recommendation is that Sweden raise its retirement age to protect the long-term solvency of the nation’s retirement system.
