They're never truly 'hinged'. They're just at various degrees of being unhinged at different points in time. Frankly, I blame it on talk radio because most RW talk radio shows have a business model which is almost wholly dependent at fostering daily outrage in their listeners. And as everyone probably knows, over time, it takes more, and More, and MORE antagonism to maintain that high level of vindictive belligerence.

What makes it glaringly obvious to me that this is exactly what's happening is when I occasionally tune in to hear some radio host trying SO hard to spin a tiny mole hill of much ado about nada into a monument to injustice.

Ultimately, what's sad to me is how blatantly obvious it seems at those times that these broadcasters really don't care about the issues or their audience. They just care about their 'careers' and fighting for a few more tenths of a point in their arbitron ratings which will then translate to higher advertising rates for their shows. Sometimes I honestly think that as long these radio hosts believe that they can profit handsomely from it, they don't give a damn that they're tearing at the fabric of our democracy.
