In spite of Trump's efforts, 92% of new generation in the US last year was solar.

Others do ... depends on your climate ... solar is a tough sell here in the rain forests westside ... because our hydro is cheapest-in-the-nation ...

But if the estimates in your hands don't add up ... then I'd pass if I were you ... plants shade trees and ditch your air conditioner ...
You ignore the initial outlay to buy the solar system in the first place. Like I said. Nothing in life is free.

If you live in San Diego, where the electricity prices are high, and your solar generation is awesome, then your break even point is measured in as few as 5 years, depending on your energy usage.

Up here where I live, a standard solar system doesn't reach break even point for over 16 years. Plus we have additional maintenance costs that san diegans don't have thanks to our wildlife (bears having fun with hardware) and weather.

I have a very good solar system, with 65k ah battery backup because our grid fails not infrequently with our snow storms, I am actually amazed we haven't had an outage with this last storm, but I don't like not having power, so I built a system much larger than I need, just to ensure I have what I want.

So ... 1/3 free electricity isn't enough? ... folks can get the rest of their energy from fossil fuels ... that would be a great step forward for us to be energy independent ... and not reliant on them ******* up north ... evil bastards ...

For all the renewable energy we're creating, we just use more energy ... no one is advocating conservation ... consider the Oklahoma cattle rancher who has installed wind turbines over his oil wells ... do you condemn him for cutting his electric bill by 1/4 or better? ... we're not replacing fossil fuel, we're adding to fossil fuel ...

The wind quits at night, we burn oil ... simple ...

I have never been against Solar and Wind power production.

What I oppose is the government shoving them down our throats and giving out massive tax breaks to the super rich who builds them as Buffet got 10 Billion in a 7 year period they walk away letting the massive bird choppers fall apart in which the low income tax payers WILL pay for the clean up bill in the future.

The governments need to get the **** out of the way!

Indeed the present government needs to get out of the way of the renewables it is trying to roadblock all over the nation. The courts just told Trump he cannot prevent some offshore projects. And the idiocy of lowering mercury and lead limits for coal plants is just another example of Trumpian interference with sane health legislation.

It has to cost more because it needs back up when the wind stops or at night wen solar prioduces nothing. They also buy surplys energy when they cant meet demand

Countries with high penetration of wind and solar, such as Germany, Denmark, and the UK, often experience some of the world's highest household electricity prices. While renewable generation costs have fallen, high retail costs are frequently driven by taxes, grid integration, and balancing intermittent supply with demand.

Solar and wind, the quickest to install, the least costly to build and maintain, racked up 92% of new generation in the US last year. And now battery storage has also plunged in price, and is considered an essential part of solar installations.

"For all the turbulence in Washington, the capacity figures tell a different story. Let me start with the numbers that clean energy analysts highlight: During a year full of headline grabbing destruction of U.S. clean energy policy, renewables still led new power additions, a trend detailed in an assessment that begins, “Let’s start with the numbers,” and notes that During Trump’s latest push against climate policy, renewables still expanded. One analysis of grid data found that 92% of all new electricity capacity added in the US was solar, with Trump’s efforts to slow the sector only making it more expensive for America to cling to older fuels."

If Cuba was on the ball they would have been increasing their solar. I guess no one saw it coming; that the USA would suddenly go to war with Cuba to bring them down.

And that is why we prep... for insurance against the unforeseen.

Levelized cost?
That's hilarious!

We don't need levelized electricity, we need 24 hours of electricity.

How much does it cost for 24 hours of electricity?
Renewables, with storage, give you 24/7 electricity at a lesser price than fossil fuels, and with greater grid stability.

Oh my, correlation does not prove causation. LOL I think that the cut off of the gas from Russia was a far bigger cause for the present high costs in portions of Europe. Fortunately they are telling Russia to go to hell, and biting the bullet, opposing Russia's attempted takeover of Europe. Unlike our bonespur leader.

Yes, YOU lie all the time.
Look you lying pretender, you are claiming the Lazard is lying. That 95% of all scientists are lying, and that Trump never lies. LOL Every National Academy of Sciences, every Scientific Society, and every major University in the world has policy statements that AGW is real, and a clear and present danger. Against that we have a anonymous poster that claims to be a PhD Geologist saying that 99% of the other geologists in the world are liars. LOL

Solar and wind are great, at least in theory, but for most, just a supplemental source or emergency backup at best. Installing solar, you are in essence installing your own mini-private power plant and there is not only a massive initial cost, but the cost of upkeep.

What I oppose is the government shoving them down our throats and giving out massive tax breaks to the super rich
Just as subsidizing EVs, these "incentives" are really just a way of the Fed picking winners and losers in the "free market" by disguising the real costs of a new technology by dressing it up with a sugary candy coating, when if the technology were really successful and valid, it would sell itself.

Yep, when it's mandated, what do you expect....dumbass.

Except renewables, with storage, haven't given us 24/7 electricity at a lesser price.
Not in the US, UK or Germany.

The cost of electricity in Germany is very high. They depended on Russian gas for years, a foolish dependency.

And then they built a lot of very expensive renewables and shut down their nuclear plants.
