In spite of Trump's efforts, 92% of new generation in the US last year was solar.

Proves nothing. Why would there be much new coal or gas generation when we already have all we need? We are running on it right now. It stands to reason that if someone is building new power generation, it would be in some green technology.

How can you argue with a Reddit post? ... it's ILLEGAL to post nonsense there ... if a complete stranger says 92% based on nothing but intuition ... who are we to disagree? ... it's just not right going "Dave Mason" on us ...

Reddit uses TicToc as a citation ... what could possibly go wrong? ...

You're acting like we shouldn't turn the TV off and chase the children outside ... solar energy ... haha ... get it? ... "solar" energy ...

Yes, I imagine reality isn't useful to somebody that denies science for political reasons.

YOU deny science.

You insist that Cat 1 damage to Jamaica was really the effect of the storm coming ashore as a Cat 5.

You believe that when an ice age glacier adds another layer of ice, as it does every year, that is "melting."

You don't follow science. You are just a verbose vocabulary of parroted bullshit easily refuted.

You need to post this on Reddit ... they need to hear this over there ... we can stop all this nonsense at it's root ... TicToc !!! ...

It would get removed in 10 seconds on reddit....

Solar and wind, the quickest to install, the least costly to build and maintain, racked up 92% of new generation in the US last year. And now battery storage has also plunged in price, and is considered an essential part of solar installations.

"For all the turbulence in Washington, the capacity figures tell a different story. Let me start with the numbers that clean energy analysts highlight: During a year full of headline grabbing destruction of U.S. clean energy policy, renewables still led new power additions, a trend detailed in an assessment that begins, “Let’s start with the numbers,” and notes that During Trump’s latest push against climate policy, renewables still expanded. One analysis of grid data found that 92% of all new electricity capacity added in the US was solar, with Trump’s efforts to slow the sector only making it more expensive for America to cling to older fuels."

Take away the gov subsidy and the number will be near zero

Generating plants like coal or nuclear power require a minimum of 3 years to install.....and that's at warp speed. Literally.
5 years is generally considered fast.

Reason being is that the alternators and fuel sources have to be manufactured. Then the area for the plant has to be seismically secure (no earthquakes or sink holes)
Few want a generating facility near them. (Three mile island).

Then environmental impact studies and a supply chain and logistics for spent fuel needs to be created. For coal its a drywall factory. For nukes....cooling "ponds" as reprocessing is more expensive than new rod assemblies with selenium cores.
Which requires yet another study to ensure ground water is not ever going to be contaminated. (500⁰F assemblies require 2 years to cool down to 200⁰)

Most of the time current generating facilities can be expanded to generate more power by adding an extra alternator or two.

Most alternators in this day and age can never stop as they are so large if they do sit idle the bearings will dimple and ruin everything...

Solar doesn't produce meaningful power 2/3 of the 24 clock.........

So ... 1/3 free electricity isn't enough? ... folks can get the rest of their energy from fossil fuels ... that would be a great step forward for us to be energy independent ... and not reliant on them ******* up north ... evil bastards ...

For all the renewable energy we're creating, we just use more energy ... no one is advocating conservation ... consider the Oklahoma cattle rancher who has installed wind turbines over his oil wells ... do you condemn him for cutting his electric bill by 1/4 or better? ... we're not replacing fossil fuel, we're adding to fossil fuel ...

The wind quits at night, we burn oil ... simple ...

How much do the solar modules cost, the inverters, the wiring and install?

I don't see anything free there.

Do the math ... stupid ... 40¢/kW-hr in San Diego ... see if you can come up with the right answer ...

Your experiences may differ ...

I have done the math. I don't see free anywhere.

Others do ... depends on your climate ... solar is a tough sell here in the rain forests westside ... because our hydro is cheapest-in-the-nation ...

But if the estimates in your hands don't add up ... then I'd pass if I were you ... plants shade trees and ditch your air conditioner ...
