GOP Senate Filibusters Debt Ceiling Bill...Shutdown Looms

Good 'ole Mitch has decided he wants the United States to default on its debt.

Yesterday it was "the Democrats need to do this themselves, we will not help.

Today they actually blocked the funding bill which is something completely different. Not unexpected, mind you, but different.

This may finally persuade the holdouts to dump the filibuster. It's time to change the rules and get some shit done.

I don't understand, Marxists control the House and Senate...how is Mitch stopping you?

It'll happen, at the last hour, like it always does. Neither side is going to let the country default. McConnell will eventually cave, and you'll have your victory. Then you'll be able to pass the 3.5 trillion spending bill using reconciliation, and have another victory.

Prepare to rub it in the faces of every republican, you'll have it all very soon.

I wouldn't get worked up over it.
Republicans have in the past. Trump shut the government down for 34 days

A previous Republican shutdown caused our credit rating to take a hit

Thank goodness that didn't happen. That would be bad.

They are not going to let the country go into default. A government shut down a different that defaulting on our debt. I really doubt they will allow that to happen.

Mitch will posture for another day, then he will sign whatever the dems want.

This happens every single time. I agree, neither side should be playing around with this because of what even the ramifications of even the thought of a debt default could bring, but both sides want to play a game...but at the end of it all, a de will be made, and likely repubs will just totally cave.

So, you'll have your victory. Just get ready. Start preparing your insults now so they'll be ready once the left gets what they want. Also have some ready for when dems push their massive spending bill unhindered by using reconciliation.

Your glee is only about a day and a half away!

You should be happy. You want America destroyed,

Mitch has been masterful at using the dems playbook against them…from Reid’s nuclear option, to the Biden rule, to now this move

Honestly, they just need to do away with the debt ceiling, because technically it doesn't exist anyway.

Think about it, they say the debt ceiling is supposed to be there to try and help control spending, when in reality, it doesn't do that at all.

They say raising the debt ceiling is about paying past debts......think about that.

This means there is no check on spending. They can just borrow and spend spend spend, then they have to raise the debt ceiling to cover that spending. What they NEED to be doing to approve a budget then borrow the money needed to fit that budget. In other words, raise the debt ceiling to cover FUTURE obligations, THAT is how you control spending...not just simply spend first, then ask for money to cover what you've already spent.

They control the House and with Harris' tiebreaker they control the Senate IF they can bribe or blackmail all their Senators to fall in line. Biden had Sinema and Manchin at the White House today to try to force their cooperation. Let them use their majorities and let the chips fall where they may.

They like to lock in spending, then pretend they can't do anything about it, and have hissy fits about draconian budget cuts when they get 6% more instead of 8%.

I don't see them locking in any spending. With the current method it's like, just spend whatever you want, then we can raise the debt ceiling later to cover it.

With the current method, there is no control on spending.

Sure...if they vote to do away with the filibuster.

You forget that McConnell is filibustering even a vote on this

Yup. You make a deal...sign the contract...and then write the check.

Republicans are refusing to right the check. In fact they're blocking it.

Stop with the party politics, suit up show up, work on some agreements, act like responsible adults Do what you were hired to do Fix things. Not keep dividing our country. The anger is at its limit, nothing good will come out of this insanity.

You do understand that holding the line on the debt limit has nothing to do with funding, right? It's about borrowing money.

It isn’t as much about borrowing money as it is about paying the bills for money we have spent.
