Food Stamps OK For Porn, Tatoos, Jewelry

People accept "government control" when it is government money.

If I gave my children gas money and they buy a case of beer, I would no longer give them gas money. See how that works?

And I don't think they pulled those services (manicures, porn, tattoos) out of their asses. I'm sure there have been cases.

First off he probably vetoed it because there is no need, unless you can buy porn, tattoos, and manicures at a grocery store or at C store.
The faux outrage is quite hilarious though. You do realize a store that sells porn, tattoos, or manicures would probably never be capable of taking a EBT card, right?
The only way you could stop it is by not allowing the card to be used at an ATM... But that would be more government control, right?

So like I said the governor probably vetoed the bill becAuse it is stupid and a waste. Whomever introduced the bill is a hack looking for political points.

Perhaps but for the working class stiff bustin' his nuts to provide for his own hears politicians and you discounting the practice, instead of taking immediate and substantive action to insure it doesn't happen, it feeds right into the sense we are already being gamed to support those who don't need supporting.

Poor people scam the system, rich people scam the system ...even middle class scams the system

If you give your kids gas money they say......now I don't have to use my money for gas, I think I'll buy beer

State Sen. Jennifer Flanagan (D-Leominster), a member of the commission, said that misuse of EBT cards isn’t just perceived, it is real.

Not everyone thinks there is a widespread problem, however. Maryann Broxton of Medford, who was at Thursday’s meeting, said that Flanagan’s assertions about EBT card fraud can’t be backed up.

Flanagan acknowledged that there is no real data on EBT misuse, but added that she wants research on it to be done.

Please show me a tattoo parlor, porn shop, or nail salon that accepts the EBT card..
Like I said, the only way it is possible is if they receive cash benefits and used the card at the ATM.
I will have to go back and re read the thread title, but it seemed mis leading with the mention of food stamps.

Your link only further confirms that the original assertion of this thread was a lie:

“You can take that cash benefit and spend it on anything you want. There's no oversight for that. So, you know, people that are receiving cash assistance, I have a problem with them being in Florida for two months and spending their benefits there,” O’Connell said.

The cash benefit is not food stamps. They are two different animals.

I am a working class stiff who is smart enough to know that you can't use your EBT card to directly buy any of these things. C stores have to have all other machine, and grocery stores have a whole other option for cash benefits and food stamps.
Like I said the bill is stupid, and a waste of time. And if I was a working class stiff in that state I would be pissed they wasted time and tax dollars on the bill.

The discretionary nature of Electronic Bank Transfers and the misuse in place of vouchers for food staples is of issue.

Vouchers (food stamps) have little utility in the market save for redemption for food stuffs approved by the program by a identified redeemer.

Yes. I'm not sure exactly how the cards work, but I think it might be like your debit card, which may be linked to both your savings and checking. The SNAP acct. can be used for food stamp items; the TANF portion can be used for anything else.

This whole thread seems to be about semantics. The EBT card can be a "food stamp card" or a "food stamp plus anything you want card" depending on your financial situation.

For the OP, and those who chimed in, in agreement -

do you see now why lying ruined your story? If you wanted to make some sort of case against cash assistance to the needy,

because by its very nature it allows for the purchase of other than necessities, then, sure, you could have done that, and that is a legitimately debatable issue.

However, by lying, by going that bridge too far by trying to wrongfully indict the food stamp program in a specious guilt-by-association fallacy,

you ended up redirecting most of the conversation into a debate over whether or not your story was true.

Face it, we all may be a bunch of dumbasses for being here in the first place, but enough of us are smart enough to make it foolhardy for anyone here to try to make a point based on a blatantly false premise.

You will get caught. You will burn.

Would be nice to see someone standup against abuse of the safety net rather than make excuses or justification for the abuse of it, perceived or otherwise.

The people who need the safety net most and the working tax payer are far better served.

The Golden Rule: He who has the gold makes the rules

Golden Rule 2.0 = He who wants to control and mete out, er redistribute, the gold has to turn those who won't do what it takes to get it by their own hand against those who will to keep power.

A few times in history, that has actually turned out to be true. At times, the masses can rise up and overthrow the ruling powers

All other times, it is the ultra wealthy power brokers who make the rules and keep the masses in line.

It is the ultra wealthy who decide how the gold is distributed and less and less is being distributed to those who work for it

Not if you will work and better yourself.

I see proof of that around me everyday.

Add / create value to valuable concerns and you will profit.

You get a card from the state that has your state's name and EBT on it. It can only be used at ATMs that will take it, and that is if you have cash benefits, and certain stores that are set up to take it.
You can take EBT cards if you run a tattoo shop, it is pretty simple.
