Health insurance is too big a deal to mess up on both for the country and for the Individual. This nonsense about government forcing insurance companies for pre-existing conditions while coddling Americans to pretend we don't have a socialist health care system has gone far enough.
Every day of our lives we SHOULD be paying into private insurance because you never know which day you'll be diagnosed with something.
Once you're diagnosed its unfair to others to go crying to the government to insure you or force some insurance company to offer you coverage just because its painfully clear to you that treatment w/o coverage will be considerably more expensive than treatment with.
Also my fellow Americans have no taste for the sight of the sick and dying on their street corner. While the poor and destitute don't get the same care Magic Johnson does, they do get decent medical care though our existing socialized system. (with the flaw I pointed out above)
So if for no other reason than this we should kick the freeloaders to the curb and enforce universal healthcare on Americans. From day 1 of our lives our parents then us will be taxed for health care on whatever level our representatives decide. Think the math is being done in someone else's favor? Go vote and get involved.
We should try first with the public/private partnerships. Something similar to the utility arrangement in most cities. Existing private corporations make money in an EXTREMELY regulated environment where everyone must be served. The politicians will have the fear of the voters to keep them honest. Insurance Companies will have the fear of government health care to keep them honest.
I also have a new idea. Any tax evader looses his health care as 1st punishment and must pay all future medical expenses out of pocket.
Sure there will be problems getting 18 year old Kaylee to work hard enough to afford this for her kid, but hey, that's what the 21st Century Civilian Conservation Corps is going to be for.
