I want to know what the Bible means at creation, when "the earth was formless and empty, darkness was over the surface of the deep, and the Spirit of God was hovering over the water." (Gen 1:2)

Naturally, your conclusion is that men in ancient times were talking about slaves as defined by nineteenth century Americans. And you probably also missed when your teacher then had you read the passage that if a master and slave/servant/worker found themselves without a blanket or coat, the blanket or coat went to the slave. (You may have been deep in thought about the nineteenth definition of 'slave'.) Also: How did men become slaves in Biblical times? They sold themselves to their employer.

No. I've never been in favor of slavery. My first hero was Harriet Tubman, she still is. I merely keep in mind that the way the economy worked in Biblical times is very different from how the economy worked in nineteenth century America. (Something that some in the South also ignored during their own time of slavery.)
