so you belong to no religion now.
Correct.

And even if I were religious, I would say my religious beliefs belong to me, rather than the other way around.

Tithes go to support the Levites, the priests of Judaism. I'm not Jewish.
In our Church, Tithes go to support the building up of the Kingdom of God on the Earth. The scripture in Malachi says tithes and OFFERINGS. The offerings are for taking care of the poor and the needy. Many Christian churches pay tithing. It's not a Jewish thing. It's for anyone who does not want to rob God.

Where did god say tithing was an obligation for anyone other than Jews?

So, God is only for the Jews? His words are only for the Jews? If that was the case, One estimate says Jesus Christ quoted the Old Testament 78 times, referring to 27 different Old Testament books.
Jesus told the Pharisees in Matthew 23:23, Luke 11:42, that he did not tell them to stop tithing, but that their focus on it was misplaced, and true righteousness involves more than just ritual. How you pay your tithes and offerings is the important thing. If you give it begrudgingly, you will not have the windows of heaven open to you. On offerings, Jesus praised a poor widow for giving all she had, demonstrating the value of a heartfelt offering over a large one from one's abundance. This fucuses from the amout given to the attitude of the giver.
So, don't give your tithes and offerings and Rob God if you are going to begrudgingly do it.

OK. Let's go at it that way. Moses law was given to the Jews to keep them separate from others. When did god remove that restriction?

It is a Jewish thing. Tithes are to be given to the Levites. When Israel was divided in the days of Jeroboam and Rehoboam the Levites remained with Judah. Tithing was done in Jesus' day and while the temple and the Aaronic priesthood remained. The Law ended with the destruction of the temple and the diaspora of the Jews. Recall that Jesus primary ministry was to the "lost sheep of the house of Israel", the ten tribes who went with Jeroboam and who retained the namesake "Israel". Jesus came to them 760 years after the Assyrian captivity. By then they had lost the Law, tithing included. Jesus didn't reestablish the law of tithing with them. Tithing is still not generally recognized among the churches that Jesus founded, although some encourage it as a principle.

The 'Law of Moses' was given to all Israel. After the split the ten-tribed "Kingdom of Israel" fell into idolatry and was conquered and dispersed by the Assyrians thus ending them as a kingdom. Of course they lost all the laws as well. When Jesus went to them (the poor who had remained in the land) he didn't preach the law of tithing to them.

I'm agnostic, but when we are in Paris we like to attend the Latin Mass at Notre Dame just because of the history.
