In fact, his mother had complete coverage for all the medical treatment she needed during her bout with cancer. The "struggle" was to get disability insurance to cover out of pocket expenses. In addition, that happened after he was an adult, and he decided to stay in Illinois and run for the state Senate rather than spend time at his mothers side. Doesn't sound like a struggle to me.

Well, I don't think a candidate's wealth and status matter as much as what side they're on when it comes to the issues we need to vote on.

FDR and JFK were wealthy, but they won because their policies towards the average person were favorable. And I'm talking about moderate people who don't take politics as seriously as many of us here. We're the everyday followers who pick at every little issue like it's a big deal but then a week later we forget about it and move on to the next triviality.

I think Mitt's big problem is the one that Obama had running against Hillary Clinton in that he wasn't connecting as well with middle class folks with limited education. But Obama finally won them over.

Mitt Romney's economic policy is to give another big round of Bush-style tax cuts to the top earners and then to raise taxes on folks who make about $20,000 or under.

In my mind, that makes me think he's out of touch because I just don't see how much revenue we can create by gouging Walmart greeters and McDonald's employees.

I do appreciate his stance on closing many tax loopholes that don't favor working people, but I'm not sure whether it's enough for him to close the gap. He could take Florida, but Ohio and Pennsylvania and Michigan I'm not so sure yet and it's because he still needs to work to get average folks on board.

Wasn't Obama doing that on the south side of Chicago? How are things going there last I heard not real well.Sometimes to save a business you have to restructure and lay people off or you could do none of that and just let the whole business go under and everyone lose their job.

Sort of like what Obama's administration did to GM. Didn't they agree to give GM TARP money if they closed some plants, layoff workers and yank dealerships forcing the dealerships to close?
