Stories about school-campus crime/tragedy remind me of films like Elephant and The Omen.
This crime-realism yarn was inspired by The Hitcher and Hiding Out.

An idyllic private school in America is the location of a very unusual tale which has become something of a myth. The tale involves the kidnapping and disappearance of a popular young female student named Elsa at the school. The only suspect in the crime is a mysterious masked man who arrived on the campus one Halloween.
A few witnesses who saw Elsa get into the car of a strange man in a white mask driving a stationwagon said that many townsfolk drove by the campus around Halloween to take snapshots of the school, since there were many fancy decorations on the school building. Halloween was a Gaelic-derived festival (Samhain), and since the private school had many Irish-American students, the school took great pride in Halloween-time decorations. The witnesses claimed the masked man who picked up Elsa in the stationwagon talked to her before she decided to get in, almost as if he was meeting/greeting her for the first time.
All students loved Elsa. She was an attractive and intelligent 16-year old student at the co-ed private school (Essex School), located in upstate New York (USA). Elsa wanted to go to Dartmouth College after graduating from Essex. She had dreams of one day becoming a news-anchorwoman for CNN or BBC. She also played field-hockey for Essex and was one of the team's top three scorers. Elsa was planning to have an unforgettable senior year at Essex before leaving for college/Dartmouth.
A witness who saw Elsa get into the car with the strange masked man that Halloween claims that the man was wearing some kind of janitor or mechanic's outfit/uniform. The witness assumed it was part of the entire Halloween costume of the mysterious man, since he was driving by the Essex campus at a time when it was common for passerby/townsfolk to drive by the campus to take photos of the awesome Essex school-building Halloween decorations/ornaments. The witness also claimed that the stationwagon the masked man was driving seemed to have a tiny Sanskrit Swastika symbol on the front side (the opposite of the Nazi Swastika symbol).
After the mysterious masked man kidnapped Elsa in the stationwagon that day, he took her to an eerie abandoned yarn on a firm some distance away from the Essex campus where he apparently had sexual contact with her before strangling her, cutting up her body into little parts, and burying the parts in the barn ground. The man then left a note for police to find which read, "This girl was sodomized, then strangled, and then cut up into parts and buried. That's the proper 'sequence' for evangelical murder, and if you foul up this sequence, you incur the wrath of the Devil who watches everyone when they 'fool around' with crime. Be warned..." The police concluded that this man was obviously some self-proclaimed 'prophet of darkness.'
A number of students decided to make tape-recordings of their fondest memories of Elsa. These tapes were then distributed across campus, and teachers and students and administrators alike decided to keep copies. The tapes reminded everyone at Essex why the tragedy of kidnappings and school-campus related murders/disappearances frightened everyone and reminded humanity of the reality of evil and darkness in a world that is otherwise focused on the 'magic' of education. One of these tapes found its way to the Oprah Winfrey Show where it was played...and Oprah broke down in tears.
GOD: Elsa's story is really horrible...
SATAN: The masked man was a Michael Myers 'copycat.'
GOD: Who is Michael Myers?
SATAN: Oh, he's the psychotic fictional masked serial killer from Halloween.
GOD: What's Halloween?
SATAN: That's the iconic American horror-film series about a Halloween-time ghoul.
GOD: So the 'real' Michael Myers terrorizes Halloween...
SATAN: ...Precisely; and this masked man who killed Elsa made a Halloween-statement.
GOD: I suppose this 'Myers copycat' was criticizing all the Halloween-time ornaments.
SATAN: Yes, Essex was proud of all kinds of Halloween-time decorations on its building.
GOD: Is that why this 'Myers copycat' had a Sanskrit/Hindu Swastika on his stationwagon?
SATAN: That's the theory the cops have right now; we believe this man was a Satanist.
GOD: He must be a very 'private' man indeed; it's unfortunate Elsa became his 'model.'
SATAN: Crime-stories make for good morality-omens.
GOD: It's so dangerous to get into a stranger's car as an 'ignorant hitcher.'
SATAN: Let's go watch the iconic horror-film The Hitcher (Rutger Hauer) on Netflix!
