In their pursuit to put down President Obama, the GOP has made themselves look like fools.

Republicans Lie About Obama's Fourth of July Plans | The Philly Post

Here’s a fun question to ask about the Republicans who spent the weekend spreading lies that Barack Obama was going to spend Independence Day raising campaign cash in Paris: Are they dumb, or evil?

Me, I’m betting on both.

The case for “dumb” starts with Andrew McCarthy, a lawyer and writer for National Review magazine. On Saturday morning, he posted a one-sentence item to the magazine’s blog saying that President Obama would spend July 4th in France on a fund-raising trip.

That was flatly untrue: AP had already reported on Friday that the President would spend the holiday at the White House at a barbecue for military families. The real story sounds really patriotic; the false story sounds really unpatriotic. So of course, McCarthy believed the false story.

In fairness to McCarthy, it was easy to understand his confusion. His blog post linked to an ambiguously worded item at Breitbart.com that noted Obama’s campaign would be raising cash from American expatriates in France—”that may be the only place where Obama can still find cheering throngs.” It’s not difficult to see how that could be misread—others did so—but McCarthy had National Review’s megaphone to make his mistake more loudly.

So why do I think McCarthy was dumb to publish the blog post?

Because he was far too willing to assume the worst about President Obama. He didn’t stop and apply a political Occam’s razor to the situation: “There’s no president—not even this one—whose political instincts are so awful that he’d spend the country’s No. 1 holiday in France, grubbing for money.” You don’t have to be an Obama fan to realize the president isn’t that stupid.

If McCarthy had given the matter five seconds’ thought, he might’ve done a quick Google search to verify the Breitbart report. Instead, he published the falsehood.

Yup. That's bad "reporting".

And, it's too bad folks don't call out bad reporting when it happens to their "team", too.

Excellent find, and it goes to show how the right wing propaganda machine works at spreading their trash.

Lemme guess, the left wing NEVER participates in propaganda.

And, if they do, you would not hold them accountable for it.

Other outlets factcheck their sources before posting and if some reason they slip up, immediately apologize and correct the mistake.
The right wing media doesn't care and just starts frothing at the mouth to post anything they can to bash Obama without care if it is factual or not, nor will they ever apologize for spreading flat out lies.

 You keep telling yourself that.

:lmao:

The only ones looking like fools are you idiots...and the loony Joel Mathis Op-Ed writer who reported this non-story.

FACTS...
1) A blooger who has submitted stories to the National Review puts up a blog on Breitbart that the President is going to France on July 4th.
2) Joel Mathis picks this up and reports that the "Republican machine is spreading lies" ...with a headline "Republicans Lie".
3) You read it and repeat the stupidity by also equating one blogger as "all republicans".

Get a life.

obama will be at the white house, but not hosting a bbq for military families. At least not ALL military families. It's a naturalization ceremony for foreign military families.

white house staff persuaded obama to attend by telling him that no born Americans would be there. Only foreigners.

Funny how folks like you assume that when one rightwinger says something we all speak in unison......but when one of you says something fucked up it's just one big-mouth not speaking for the rest of you.

Double-standard much??

The left seems to be full of double-standards.

Because they do. The right wing propaganda masters speak, the useful idiots obey, then parrot the propaganda without question.

Just like this for example,..

That's one of the things that makes it "The Left".

If you got down the the truth, it might be that obama intended to go to France because he hates this country so much, but was persuaded to stay. This is an election year and going to France might look bad.

But first, he spent some portion of the day swearing in new citizens.

Obama urges immigration reform at July 4 citizen ceremony | Reuters

"What a perfect way to celebrate America's birthday - the world's oldest democracy - with some of our newest citizens," Obama told the group of military members and their families, who came from countries including Mexico, Ghana, the Philippines, Bolivia, Guatemala, and Russia.

"You put on the uniform of a country that was not yet fully your own. In a time of war, some of you deployed into harm's way. You displayed the values that we celebrate every Fourth of July - duty, responsibility, and patriotism," Obama said.
