Zone1 What would Jesus do about the GOP plan?

Plausible as anything in the Magic Book I guess. ;)
A trick I learned from my mother: If I do something that's disappointing, it was part of God's plan.

Jesus was fiction.

There are no god/s to save us.

If we were ants or bees, we could be good commies. Humans are too corrupt, greedy and evil to be good commies. If Jesus was real, that was what Jesus would say.

Fair. I have no issues with people who arent believers and think life is just a state of currently being. Its not as comforting but just as likely.

Maybe not

In fact of course we dont

But thats what we have and we find a way to tax more intelligently
The most intelligent way is to tax those who have more than it takes to live progressively. It has the most utility in economic terms and is Biblical if you care, or at least ethical.

James Talarico last week asked 4 simple questions to answer about what Jesus would do that are thought provoking. What are your thoughts on these answers?

  1. What would Jesus do about a tax system that favors the rich over the poor?
  2. What would Jesus do about a Healthcare system that forces the sick to start gofundme pages?
  3. What would Jesus do about an Education system that tied a community’s education to it property wealth?
  4. What would Jesus do about an Economic system that prioritizes profits over the health of our planet?
I don’t think he would approve of the GOP plan on any of those. What about you?

Jesus never advocated that the government make people dependent.

So you are telling me Jesus was all about telling the poor to pick themselves up by the bootstraps and for rich people to keep their money so that the poor dont become dependent on them? Id like to see those verses. I'll hang up and listen. Click.

  1. What would Jesus do about a tax system that favors the rich over the poor?

We have a "progressive" tax system. SO, your question is a lie.

  1. What would Jesus do about a Healthcare system that forces the sick to start gofundme pages?

I think Jesus would support people being charitable.

  1. What would Jesus do about an Education system that tied a community’s education to it property wealth?

Since the mid 60s it has been a know scientific FACT that the primary factor in a child's education outcome is parent involvement, not money. This has been know. Everytime a lefty says otherwise, they are lying.

  1. What would Jesus do about an Economic system that prioritizes profits over the health ...

Jesus wasn't a marxist greenie, so, I'm sure he would be fine with it.

So Jesus would applaud tax breaks for the wealthy, Canceling of poverty healthcare from medicaid, a slanted education system that funds the wealthy, and shitting on the environment. Something tells me you either arent reading your Bible or perhaps your Savior is Newt Gingrich and not Jesus.

So Jesus would applaud tax breaks for the wealthy, ....

ALL the tax breaks are put in there by legislators who want to control how people spend their money.

You don't like it?

Me neither. I support replacing such taxes with a national sales tax. Take power away from the politicians and eliminate the IRS.

But you wouldn't support that. YOu want the dems to have the power to trade tax breaks for political donations.

And you like having the IRS to terrorize your enemies with.

Thats socialist bs

If everyone pays the same tax rate with no deductions the rich will still pay more

But everyone will pay their fair share

A sales tax is super regressive. A working class person spends 100% of their money on stuff. A rich person spends 1-10% of their money on stuff. So the tax is 10 to 100Xs harder on the working class. Jesus doesnt approve.

You are skipping past the fact that you need to make a threshold to live and a threshold to prosper. Makes no sense to drag down people close to those two lines while those way above the line have their lives affected very little by taxes. That's capitalism. Not socialism. You price things based on value. The US functioning is worth more to you if you have a Billion vs if you have nothing. Capitalism.

So, you whine about a system you support, to make a point in relation to a faith, you not only don't share, but have nothing but contempt for.

Typcial for a lefty.

He would do the same thing He did about the Roman policies that enslaved the people they conquered, nothing. In fact, He would say, "Give to Caesar what is Caesar's", and "Obey those in authority over you". You know, those kinds of things.

Face it, He simply had very little to say about politics, so stop trying to drag Him into political things, thinking you're going to score points by doing so.

I’m guessing Jesus would prefer no taxes paid on the earnings you need to live and then a progressive system. I don’t suspect he’s a flat taxer. Just saying.
Show me where Jesus said much of anything about government systems. Remember, He lived under Roman occupation and oppression. Go on, quote Him.

Libs abuse the progressive tax to the point that many people pay no tax at all

That includes the rich and the poor

We need money to fund the government and we need government to protect the Bill of Rights along with other basic general needs

The poor should pay their fair share since they enjoy the same basic rights as everyone else

Jesus said not to sell expensive oil to help the poor but instead that the oil be used on him.

And temple Judaism had no progressive tax. Each Jewish man paid the same tax: half a shekel.

Who did Jesus admire more? The rich people who brought of their plenty to the Temple, or the poor widow who gave two small copper coins? Did he rush into the Temple and demand the Temple tax the rich even more so that the Temple could take better care of the poor widow? He pointed out that the widow gave more than did the rich.

My grandparents lived through the depression, and were quite poor. Even so, they had a roof over their heads and some food. There were plenty of occasions where someone would be knocking at their door, and while admitting they needed a place to stay and a meal, they were adamant they would not accept any charity. Was there work they could do first.

Interesting that when welfare first started up, they faced this same attitude. So government welfare solved that problem by changing the name of what was being provided from 'charity' to 'entitlements'. Those in power know how to work the system so they can scoop up dependents needed to insure they stay in power. And they use their power to insist those not in power to send them money so they can help the poor. Funny, isn't it, how the poor remain poor while those in power grow extremely rich claiming the poor need even more money. The powerful are insatiable.

He would say the Roman Empire never ended.
