There are plenty of places where Jesus made it clear He was God. His fellow Jews understood exactly what He meant and tried to kill Him because of it. Of course, you don't think they actually tried to kill Him, they just looked sideways at Him because they didn't understand what He was saying or some such nonsense.
Sure. Many people wanted to discredit or kill Jesus for exposing them as actors and lying frauds, narcissists, talking serpents, disrupting the status quo of fleecing the general population deliberately blinded at birth so they could live on easy street while everyone else suffered, and because the religious elite thought he was a traitor by revealing the secrets of the kingdom of God, the secret meaning of the law, which was deliberately being withheld by a few from all, even the Jewish laity, as can bee seen in the Dead Sea Scroll manual of discipline.
On the appointment of presbyters.
When these men have undergone, with blamelessness of conduct, a two year preparation in the fundamentals of the community, they shall be segregated as especially sacred among the formal members of the community.
Any knowledge which the expositor of the law may posses but which may have to remain arcane to the ordinary layman, HE SHALL NOT KEEP HIDDEN FROM THEM; for in their case there need be no fear that it might induce apostasy.
On religious discussion.
No one is to engage in discussion or disputation with men of ill repute;
and in the company of froward men everyone is to abstain from talk about (KEEP HIDDEN) the meaning of the Law.
The last thing a shuckster wants at the market is a Jesus going around opening the eyes of the blind, their marks.
Thats why the "authorities" exclaimed, "where did he get this teaching!" not because it was revolutionary or unknown but because it was supposed to be kept secret especially from "froward men of ill repute" like Jesus.
And thats why Jesus said, "No one lights a candle and then hides it under a bushel. They put it on the lamp stand so everyone in the room can see" He saw the meaning of the law being kept secret as a brazen violation of a direct command of God for the law to be "a light to the nations", for everyone, including the despised Romans.
