The entire Iran is encased by mountain ranges and rugged terrain - aside from most of the Afghan border. When I first said Turkey does not border Iran, I had not seen Turkey at the upper left tip of Iran so am saying now it does border Iran. But the area is mountainous. This does not make a good spot to assemble a huge army and invade Iran. And Turkey shows no interest anyway.
I am not saying I am a qualified military expert. But compared to the majority of posters, I believe I am better qualified than most are.
Trump would be crazy to use Turkey if they allowed him to thanks to the mountains that make lousy staging areas.
If you look into a relief map of Iran you will see that the smallest mountain range is on the Turkish border and then runs almost flat 700 km to Tehran. In today's mobile and air transport oriented warfare - a roughly 30km wide mountain range is no big obstacle.
Furthermore such an operation is build entirely on the "local" support which in North and North-west Iran is absolutely given. So the first target stage would be the major city of Tabriz - 100-120 km form the Turkish border. From Tabriz all major roads and moderate terrain lead to Tehran which is around 600 km from Tabriz.
So all one needs - is the support of the locals (foremost Kurd's) - the same air-strike capability and long range missile capability as presently - a strong contingent of HIMARS-MLRS units and around 25000 - 35000 US combat troops - fitted extensively with Transport Helicopters, Transport aircraft and Gunships as well as around 60-80 A-10s. The backbone of the ground-force are local "freedom-fighters" around 50,000 - 100,000. The Iranian Army will not engage efectivly - and the IRGC can't send more then 30,000 combat troops to engage that operation from Turkey - whilst some 5000-8000 Marines are setting up an extended beachhead around Bandar-Abbas. And 2 armored Brigades as well as 3 mobile infantry brigades in Kuweit head towards Abadan and Ahwas.
However YOUR TACO fucked it up from the beginning - simply because he never held consultations with Russia & China as well as NATO - as to how far he can go in regards to Iran. So if Russia and NATO and to a certain extend China don't agree to this - even that military operation from Turkey to Tabriz might very well end up in disaster for the USA.
And what is TACO going to promise the Kurd's? is the new Tehran regime going to just accept a Kurdish state??
