We Trade Our Lives For Money

RE Taxes? utilities?
I figure if I do nothing, it costs me or will cost me about $1000 a month to pay all my bills. That’s $12,000 a year. And I haven’t even considered private insurance because I’m not 65. Add $350 a month.

Don't retire. Work til you die.

Of course you’re pointing at two of the most expensive places in America. Why didn’t you bring up Hawaii?

What a waste of a life. If you have enough why continue?

Go hunt for the entire month of October or November. Not just long weekends.

Go walk your dog for two hours in the morning and get home around noon.

Go for bike rides with friends who are retired and have no one to hang out with

Go golf, fish, canoeing, camping, shopping,

Florida in the winter Michigan in the summer.

If you’re going to be on a budget, keep working.

I don’t but my brother does
.

One thing you may also want to consider if you or your brother doesn't already own one ...
Is a portable hammer drill and a socket for the feet.

It makes it a lot quicker to set up and level the camper, cutting about 15 minutes off the time and all the effort.
That can come in pretty handy if you get caught setting up in the rain.

The camper comes with a tool you can use, but it isn't near as functional.
You won't need a really heavy-duty drill.

I will ask about this at the RV show I'm going to at 6pm. I have to remember, portable hammer drill and a socket for the feet. WTF is that? And what do I need it for?

Tell my friend that. He probably has 2 or 3 million and he's 53. His home is paid off, he has a place in Florida, all the toys a grown man could want or need, he has figured out how to golf for free. No kids.

You have kids? You probably want to leave them something. His goal is to not leave too much money in the bank before he dies. Enjoy it. He earned it.

To each their own. I got kids

Yea, if I had kids, I'd worry about leaving them something. Unless I saw they were more successful than me then **** it.

And most of us, including me, have the mentality that it will never be enough. What about inflation? What about an emergency? What if the market tanks? Like I said, if you have to retire on a budget don't retire. Unless you hate working.

But if you have things to do. I love outdoor hobbies and being outside. I might even consider finding a spot with an RV and see how long I can live without power. Garden, hunt, fish, chop wood, haul water,

Or to be able to go to Florida from Jan 1 to March 15. I like shuffle board and swimming in the ocean or a pool. I have an ebike to ride up and down the coast.

Eventually, I may tell my boss I will continue to do my job but I have to have the freedom to do whatever I want. Maybe move me to 100% commission. If he said yes, I'd be stupid to give up this job. 100% commission and healthcare. That's all I would need. I could do my job from the RV.

I didn’t see any portable hammer drill and a socket for the feet? What do you do without one?

I saw a cool $600 electricity kit. Got to have one of those. included a deep cell battery, solar panel and a bunch of other stuff to keep electricity going.

Prices have gone up. One like yours is in the $20s now not $15k.

A lot of cool ones for $15k but not as good as yours.

My brother wants one too. So I’ll probably buy it for both of us. I just need it for winter so I can go to Florida and live in it. I think he would like to take his wife on trips like to Yellowstone. We don’t think she will love it but there will be times you want to go to a rest stop and nap.

Are there cool places you can take these and park free along your trip?

I didn’t see your brand.

we are even considering one that is a car and rv together. Not detachable. Road trips in those would be fun and comfortable

I think used is the way to go. People regret buying these and can’t sell them. Cut the price in half.

I use a DeWalt drill and like I said it doesn't have to be a heavy duty one ... Mine is a 20 volt Max XR.
But you really just need one with torque settings.

Hooked up to your vehicle it will still fit in a regular spot in a parking lot.
Find two spots empty longways and you are fine.
It has a short wheelbase and is not difficult when pulling out.
Not like a big camper where you have to make a huge turn ... It follows your vehicle.

For price ... Shop around.
You are going to be hauling it anyway.

Look for one within 300 miles or so and find a dealer that will get you close to the price you want to pay.
I bought mine in another state because the dealers here wouldn't come down on the price.
They are seasonal and buying them off season or at the end of their model year helps.

Don't buy one unless it is exactly what you want ... Don't let someone sell you something else.
If you and your brother hunt ... It will change the whole damn trip.

We want to go to a Canada or U.P Michigan on hunting or fishing trips. If we had one of these we’d go.

My quad cost me $6500 in Lansing. Around me it was $8500. And they delivered it to me. Wtf?

A lot of the cheap ones in the $20ks were cheap or didn’t have a lot of space. I think it’s worth it to pay the extra $5000-$30,000 more than $15k and do it right. They had some sweet ones for $45k. Compare that to a $12k condo in Florida that costs you at least $5000 a year. A $50k v sounds pretty good.

There are nicer campers with more room.
I selected the R-Pod for length, weight, construction materials, and usability.

I have friends that have other campers.
Knocking on wood, I have had no problems with my R-Pod, its appliances, construction or accessories.

I cannot say the same for my friends and their alternate choices.

If it were just me I’d get what you got but I think I need to go bigger or my family wont enjoy it. I’m always spending time on his million dollar property. $60k is the least I can do.

Id love to say to him, “I can afford $20k. Any more you got to pay.” So if he wants a $65k rv it costs him $45k. Win win.

But I won’t be cheap. I have to chip in. They have a place in Greece, Florida and up north. They never ask me to chip in and pay for anything.

Some 31% of women and 27% of men signed up for Social Security at age 62 in 2018, down from around 54% of women and 50% of men in 2005

It's not because they want to work. If they could retire at 62, they would. Seems like the American middle class isn't what it was even as recently as the Bush era.

The good thing about corona is it's gotten a lot of rich people to get out of the job game leaving openings for the rest of us. Guys who would have normally worked another 10 years are retiring early. Sitting at home for a year during corona they got used to it. LOL
