Morrisound Studios, which was behind most of the big death metal bands of the 80s and 90s, got a historical marker from Hillsborough county. Surprising, but Tampa WAS known as the death metal capital of the world. :)

Really. I always apologize to Montrovant who is a heavy metal fan but that is one genre of music, especially death metal, that I just have not been able to embrace.

I am very eclectic in my music tastes and can appreciate and enjoy classical, older versions of pop, jazz, blues, country, bluegrass, new age, some reggae, folk, gospel, other country's music like Mariachi, Irish, etc., even some hip hop.

But I just never could get with the heavy metal.

And most of the modern stuff just doesn't sound like music to me. I want strong melodies, lyrics, style instead of just noise.

Speaking of death metal I swear this board looks like it's on it's death bed......... I remember when it was hopping but no more. Then again that is the way all message boards seem to be going. The advent of social media is seeing to that with places like Facebook, X, Reddit, etc being the hot spots nowadays. With all one's "message boards" in one place people are ditching more dedicated message boards.
I don't think these will completely die out and peoples attitudes could change down the road creating a resurgence. Only time will tell.

I hope it continues. I don't do politics or any other controversial topics on Facebook at all. It is my 'Coffee Shop' with friends and family and I just enjoy sharing a bit of their everyday lives, travels, adventures, hobbies, accomplishments, etc. there.

I am active on X and of course do politics freely there but there is no way to have the dedicated discussions there like there is on a message board.

I have noticed that most of the Discussion Groups to which I have belonged → have faded away or have become nearly stagnant.

I think that I am old, in the tail end of the Baby Boomer Generation, who uses the desktop for social media. As my kids say, "dinosaur." They are on their smartphones all the time. I can remember my parents, way back when, a computer was a technology they simply did not understand. Now it is my turn.

Recently, I had a confrontation with the new system the Veterans Administration (VA) uses called "ID.me." Evidently, I need a smartphone to access my VA Records and messages. In the past, I accessed the VA Notices, secure messages, health, and lab results via "MyHealtheVet."

My HealtheVet sign-in option

This option is no longer available

It is just another technological roadblock for those who are behind the times, like me.

But enough about me. I am not sure how we can increase our activity or induce USMB members to participate.

I am able to get to My Healthe Vet on the computer.

I do va.go. Then go through id.gov, which does the double certification. I use the text me for 6-digit number. That sends be back to va.gov and my VA selection group.

It was not easy getting used to it. Now I fly through it.

I will not use a smart phone. Too many curious ears out there.

Does your state veterans service have a para travel card for senior veterans needing to go anywhere, shopping or the VA or the movies or shopping or whatever?

One of our favorite restaurants wanted us to access their menu via our telephones. I advised the water and the front check in staff that if that was going to be their policy, we would not be back.

We've never been asked to do that since and are always greeted with lovely hand held menus. :)

I have learned to use those little table top kiosks to pay our bill though and have learned to like them. Sure beats those interminable waits for the server to get back with the check.

As for the para card thing I don't know. My husband is a member of the American Legion, qualifies for military discounts and such but doesn't use the V.A. for anything.

Ringel05 or SFC Ollie are both active veterans though and might be able to answer your question about that.

I find enough discussions to keep me interested here though the trolls are doing their damndest to make those as difficult as possible. I deal with that by mostly ignoring them/dismissing them and by not responding to them.

I, too, had to navigate this BS Cerner boondoggle. It was a royal pain. I can do it using Login.gov, but I had to deal with ID.me as well. I think you can use your laptop using ID.me to access VA.gov, but you have to use a cell phone to set it up--what a pain. From what I gather, now that you have set up an ID.me account, you can use it to access any .gov site including your MySocialSecurity account. I think this whole thing was designed to discourage use of the system. I can tell you that none of them like VPNs so if you have one on your laptop, disable it before trying to log in using your ID.me.

Concerned American, I go through va.gov to id.me to login, but you have to have a phone for the text msg verification.

You are 100% right that if you go straight to id.me, you will able to access SS and VA etc.

It was awkward to set up for me.
