Zone1 Trump yanks millions from Catholic Charities amid Pope feud

So as long as they're run by the 'Reverend' Wright or some commie front you're okay with it, it's just Trump that is bad n evul. okay.
Did the Catholic charity do anything wrong or illegal, who trump chose to cut off as some sort of vengeance against the Pope for not worshipping his war?

As already pointed out, they engaged in providing sanctuary to criminals, i.e. organized crime. Duh. Sounds pretty political to sane people to deliberately violate US policy and immigration laws, eh.

If the Churches really believed in 'separation of church and state' they would refuse any money from the govt. for anything. But they don't. I'm talking about both Roman and Protestant churches.

If Trump wanted to make some real money, take away the Churches tax free status. The 501c3. Why should churches be taking a handout from the government if they believe in separation of church and state?

Why? No reason to. They don't make profits, they're non-profits. Nothing to tax. Should we tax parks and schools, too?

You think that tax free status for churches is not profitable? Pick a large church in any big city, and tell me how much money they are enriched by not paying property taxes. What would the taxes be for St Patrick's Cathedral in NYC every year?

I'm not talking about parks and schools.

Who is 'enriched' by this tax exempt status?

Why not? They are much larger properties than most churches. And besides, making no laws re religion also includes tax laws.

The church is.

Because I am talking about the churches. I am not talking about separation of parks and state. I am talking about separation of church and state.

Why do the churches think they should get a handout from the government? Why does the government, which always whines about separation of church and state, give a handout to the churches? Government never gives anything without getting something in return.

Think of all the money the government could get every year.

The Catholic church has made huge profits on its real estate and other holdings.

“The office that manages Vatican investments and real estate reported a profit of 62 million euros (around $63 million) in 2024, up 16 million euros from 2023.”

The vatican has an office to manage their investments, $63 million in profits is a pretty good return.

So? They have managed trust funds and investments like any other non-profit. They get taxed on property not being used for church functions same as everybody else. They aren't profiting by claiming their investment properties are tax exempt, because they aren't.

From the article:

The Vatican has 4,234 real estate properties in Italy and 1,200 more in London, Paris, Geneva and Lausanne, Switzerland. Only about one-fifth are rented at fair market value. Some 70% generate no income because they house Vatican or other church offices; the remaining 11% are rented at reduced rents to Vatican employees.

In 2024, these properties only generated 35 million euros in profit, essentially equaling the profit of 2023.

Not much in the way of investment properties, about 20% of them.

Everybody in that church 'in particular'.

So, they get cash handouts? What do you think that amounts to per person? There are what, a billion or so Catholics?

However much money every year that the church doesn't have to come up with to give to the Federal government. That's a government handout.

Quantrill

lol wrong. You just hate religous people for some reason, usually a neurotic one.

Everybody else doesn’t have an exclusive real estate enclave such as Vatican city.

When does a non profit earning $63 million dollars become a for profit?

Some might say getting into a public feud with the Pope is not exactly a good idea. This headline gave me pause though, because even though I have pretty much abandoned trying to elucidate the many reasons that Trump and his presidency are problematic, what does Trump hope to gain or what point is he trying to make by retaliating against Catholic organizations, particularly charities, by taking away their funds/funding? Could it simply be that in Trump's world, he perceives the loss of money, whether it's taken outright or the funding source is cut off, as the worst thing that could possibly happen to a person, organization, etc.? If, in his world, this is what he considers the absolute worse, then in a way some of the things he does sort of make sense but many of them still seem like nothing more than a shakedown, but I digress.

Does anyone think he's doing this simply to get back at the Pope due to his criticism of Trump? Remember, Vance has for several days now, been doing damage control and it seems like trying to mediate the tension between the two, but I get the impression that the only party that is miffed is Trump.

You do know that the funding was "yanked" before the Pope started the squabble with the President, right?
