Trump wants to eliminate income tax, but replace it with tariffs on imported goods.

How long does that take and what effects happen in the mean time?
It takes as long as it takes

Anything is better than pulling a rickshaw loaded with rich communists

This doesn’t scare me one bit. China will never match our strength.
You are a lost cause

I want to do what it takes to save our standard of living

So all we're doing now is discussing WHY I'm right when I said that we have more people employed now than in anytime in US history.
Crazy%20Bird.jpg

Let me know when you want to discuss real solutions.

You botched about Trump's last tariff plan...right up until Biden kept it ... And expanded on it.

And you're claiming "best economy ever!".

Can't have it both ways.

18 billion. Compared to Trump's new proposal of 2500 billion.

And 18 billion on a very narrow range of import products. Compared to 2500 billion on every single import product or commodity brought to the US.

See, its the scale where your argument runs into problems.

You are a lost cause

You have been instilled with an irrational fear and hatred of China. Makes sense for a boomer who lived through the Cold War. It’s like a reflex for you guys.

China having a grey water navy doesn’t affect my quality of living one bit.

Jacking up tariffs on consumer products from China will.

You have been instilled with an irrational fear and hatred of China.
Yes, except for calling it irrational

Communist china is a threat to freedom and world order

Putting blind trust in the chicoms as the West did from 1970 to 2016 must never happen again

But you guys said THESE would ruin the economy and start a trade war.

If you were wrong then, you could just as easily be wrong now.

Simply dismissing it because it's Trump's plan is where you (and not you specific, but democrats in general) drop the ball and become unreliable as judges.

Like I said...you threw fucking fits when Trump established these tariffs...right up until Biden kept them...and expanded on them.

The trajectory we are on is unsustainable.

A first world country cannot remain a first world country while outsourcing billions to countries that pay pennies for labor.

Sure, they might start making dollars, but their rise will be equalled by our fall until an equilibrium is reached.

The alternative is to either force them to level the playing field, or artificially level it.

There is no third option.

No. It’s paranoia. Just like in the Cold War, the bigger threat to freedom was a paranoid government looking for communists around every corner.

China’s navy is being built to give Peking control of all of East and Southeast Asia

Something Imperial Japan tried to do in WWII

You can usually get away with narrow, small, targeted tariffs because there are import alternatives that you can purchase for a similar price.

Trump's tariff proposal leaves NO product untouched. Every imported avocado, piece of clothing or silverware, pill, drop of oil, car, truck, TV or iphone.....would be subject to a tariff of between 85% and 135%.

Which would crash the import market. Americans would buy domestic versions of these products instead or face a massive inflationary spike if there are no alternatives on necessary commodities. Which reduces tariff revenue due to reduced imports. Which means you need to increase the tariff rates to break even.

Which just starts the cycle all over again.

Its a downward spiral of stupid. We've already done this in 1930, on a smaller scale. The great depression immediately followed.

You are a real live throwback to the Cold War era where communist apologists were telling us the Soviets were no threat

Thankfully no one listened to them then

China is not invading Southeast Asia. Jesus, where do you get these paranoid delusions.

I'll wait to see the actual plan.

But, there weren't the same technologies in 1930.

In 1952 my grandfather bought a Ford 9N tractor and he, my dad and my uncles reworked the farm implements from horse drawn to tractor pulled. I still use the tractor today.

I'm sure there will be trade-offs, but this will create incentives for small companies in the US to fill the gaps.

In 1930 we were no the engine that turned the world economy.

What might be tough on us will break everyone else.

What does China do when there is nowhere to export to?

How does tariffs and massive inflation solve your rickshaw problem?

This video estimates that tariffs would have to be at 133%. This would mean that other countries would also put up tariffs on US goods.

So, A) foreign goods for the US would be too expensive for people to buy

B) US goods would be too expensive to sell abroad.

C) This would hit the working classes the hardest. Any tax which taxes what people buy, like sales taxes, is worse for poor people than income taxes, as the poor pay a high proportion of their wages on goods, while the rich don't.

Nothing says "I Don't Care About You, I Just Want Your Vote" than this policy.

Love the idea!

You think I said best economy ever?! Haha. When?

And we aren’t talking about the old plan we are talking about the new one he is proposing

Yes it is

China is building artificial islands in open waters and using them to claim sovereignty over the entire South China Sea

Its encroaching on the fishing and mineral rights of Viet Nam, the Philippines, Indonesia and Japan

And using its navy to bully its weaker neighbors

Its not the technologies. Its the scale. Trump has already proposed abolishing an income tax and replacing it with tariffs.

That's 2.5 TRILLION dollars anually. Or roughly 10% of our total GDP.

We've never done tarriffs within an order of magnitude of that number.

Tariffs help protect US manufacturing

China’s goal is to drive American companies out of business
