The DoJ will treat documents as classified until proven otherwise. Since Trump never said anything was declassified and since his lawyer treated them as classified, the DoJ did the only rational thing.

Ok, so once again, what is the official law for how a president must declassify things? Up until the point he leaves the white house, hes still president. If he has unilateral declassification authority, and there is no law governing how a president must declassify things, why cant he declassify things as hes boxing them up?

There’s nothing subjective about the subpoena which required him to turn over every document with classification markings on a specific date. Whatever he thought he was in process of doing is irrelevant. He had a legal responsibility to comply with the subpoena and didn’t.
