I am fortunate to be born in a country founded on being free from the tyranny of the government. The care in crafting a government designed not to infringe upon its citizens is amazing. The layers of checks and balances to prevent abuse and tyranny were thorough. I think it is human nature for all systems of government to become corrupt and abusive. This makes me wonder how Democrats reconcile this founding with their enthusiastic push towards collectivism. I've heard posters say that failed communist countries failed because they were authoritarian, not because they were collectivists. These same posters don't seem to recognize any connection between tyranny and collectivism. Is the democrat, progressive view of large, powerful government compatible with our founding against government tyranny?

Some of us see those as the two sides of the same coin. Authoritarian includes collectivism, vice-versa.
