Trump Reportedly Is Set To Accept A Jet From Qatar’s Ruling Family For Possible Use As Air Force One

The Trump administration has accepted the “unconditional donation” of a luxury jet from Qatar, with no stipulation on what should happen to the aircraft after President Donald Trump leaves office, according to an agreement reviewed by ABC News.

The memorandum of understanding, or MOU, was signed earlier this month by Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth and Qatar’s Minister of State for Defense Affairs, Soud bin Abdulrahman Al-Thani.

The deal paves the way for the Air Force to begin the process of retrofitting the plane -- dubbed a “flying palace” because of its luxurious finishes -- for the president’s use.

If the we’re paying for the retrofit, the plane should remain US property after Trump leaves office.

Then he should pay the freight.
I was under the impression that presidents are not permitted to KEEP---valuable
gifts from OTHER GOVERNMENTS -----some first ladies got in trouble for KEEPING---
I think. Don't quote me---I'm not sure

He can accept a gift to the nation on behalf of the nation.

Supposedly it’s going to the Trump Presidential Library, but I don’t see how it would fit in a Mar-a-Lago bathroom.

AF1 should stay with the American people, not Trump.

I don't doubt that under the thin veneer that the Orange TACO is going to try and keep it for himself. I just don't see how he can. It must be accepted by the Air Force or some other part of the US. It cannot be accepted by a President to keep it for himself. Yah, I know, with the Orange Cheeto, he's trying to finagle things to his own bidding. He does nothing for anyone other than himself.

Any "President" that would steal the winning sports trophy should not have ANY respect.

The next AF1 that gets retired will go be parked at one of the Presidential Library sites but it will be used as a backup to the existing AF1s. Right now, there are two 707 based ones that are being kept up to fill in if one of the existing AF1 747 based units is out of commission for any number of reasons. When the next AF1 retires (it doesn't really retire, it just become a backup parked at a Presidents Library) it's still maintained and flown just enough to keep it in condition if it's needed.

The 707 based ones are called VC-137A while the 747 based ones are called VC-25A. Both of the VC-137As are kept completely operational but a retired President CANNOT use it as his. It is still a backup for the two AF1s in service.
