I have never ever read his books. ?

What do you recommend

I found several that may interest me.

I like horror !! I don’t like books with fantasy stuff that much or with strong women main characters or girls !! I do love classic monsters and teenage boy / male characters

Here is a few I found

Pet sementary , Mist , misery , Salem’s lot ,

Night shift , Skelton crew , Christina

Seem interesting

I was a King fan for a loooooong time. I have one of the largest first edition collections of his works of anyone I know. The first book I ever read of his was the Shining and I was sold. Somewhere around the mid 90s I became disillusioned with him. I found mistakes in his works that included automotive themes and I lost patience with his wordiness. My opinion, as yours seems to be, is his early works were his best. When you check out works be sure to include his nom de plume, Richard Bachman.

There are four that come to mind that I remember reading from start to finish. There may be others but I can't remember for sure.

1) Misery (my personal favorite)
2) The Mist (very good)
3) IT (also very good)
4) Pet Cemetery (also good)

As it became clear that King was a woke numbskull, I stopped supporting him. But you can find used books on market which won't enrich him.

The Stand was pretty good, but maybe a tad overrated. That’s the only King book I read.

Nope. IMO, the guy is totally overrated, a commercial author, and I've never seen or read anything from him I liked.

For good horror-fiction, I always begin with H.P. Lovecraft.

The Stand

Hands down his best, IMO. I've read it three times in two different editions, twice in the original release, and once in the authors original edition with the cuts back in.

Salem's Lot is also very good.

I have a .pdf copy of Rage, but have not yet read it. He refuses to let it be published again.

For you I would recommend his collections of short stories such as Nightmares and Dreamscapes or Four Past Midnight.
