Why do lefties resist the concept of "America first"? They make up all kinds of horror stories related to tariffs as if we never had one in history. It's a bargaining chip to force countries to comply with the interests of the United States. Quit whining about Chinese made junk in Walmart and enjoy cheaper energy and cheaper prices in the grocery stores.

Because "American First" means "America alone" and it was an utter disaster for your trade and your economy in Trump's first term.

There won't be any cheaper prices in the grocery stores at all because of mass deportations and closed borders. No cheap labour in the fields or the processing plants means no cheap food on the shelves, or in your restaurants.

I gotta wonder how many investment bankers are going to be willing to invest in building new American manufacturing plants knowing that those plants are only viable because of extraordinary tariffs that can disappear at any time. Their success would wholly depend on a huge government interference in the market and defiance of free market principles.

Besides the products manufactured would not be price competitive internationally - they would rely solely on domestic markets.

During Trump's first trade wars, all investment in new manufacturing stopped because manufacturers couldn't plan their supply lines or the cost out the financial projections without firm and secure international trade deals in place. Trump ripping up the existing trade deals every time he's in a bad mood will have the same result.

Canada and Mexico both benefitted financially the last time Trump declared war on your biggest trading partners, and given Trump's fiscal incompetence, I think we can expect to do so again.
