Tariffs on Mexico and Canada

The corporate structure of the casino biz was set up as a way for trump to extract cash from the biz over the objections of the shareholders, leading to mismanagement.
More or less the same as him going public with his social media platform that's losing millions every quarter. Knowing the rubes were ripe for the slaughter, he anticipated the value of the stock would be pinned to his cult-like persona, not the enterprise value of the entity. He makes Barnum look childish by comparison.
I wonder if he had any idea, on the day he came down the escalator, that an entire cult of personality would be built around him. Political, cultural, even religious, since those people sold their soul.

I'm guessing he did not.

How did Canada get involved? Oh yes Trump is a moron.

Can you name all the countries that currently levy tariffs on US exports?

Why shouldn’t the US return the favor? Why should that be a one way street?

Hold Mexico accountable for the illegals and drugs they are facilitating crossing the southern border. That is what Trump plainly stated.

ORANGE MAN BAD is a fucking retarded way to go through life.

Or that's what Fox News will tell you and you'll believe it.

The reality is they'll just find new ways to sneak into the country if Asylum is harder to get.
It's what Mexico is doing.....all due to Trump's tariff threat.

No doubt people will continue to cross...... however, it will never be in the numbers Biden permitted when he continually violated immigration law.

Canada has a free trade agreement with the US along with Mexico. Remember, THE ONE TRUMP NEGOTIATED?

Trump is leveraging tariffs to get Mexico and Canada to handle their border.

I love it.

As far as China. Tell the class what tariffs China levies on US goods?

Germany?

Japan?

list the countries that levy tariffs on US goods.

Yeah, in the real world, the President of Mexico said this.

Mexico has fired back at Donald Trump’s new threat to institute tariffs against the country, warning that it would respond with tariffs of its own.

“To one tariff will come another and so on, until we put our common businesses at risk,” Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum said in a press conference Tuesday, adding that she would send a letter tmp urging dialogue and cooperation.
what fox reported was a lie. I sat hear and listen to the Mexican ambassador and he never said they had shut it down but rather in the past couple of years had stopped hundreds of thousands from coming into Mexico and they did admit a few thousands as asylum seekers. So fox and cell are fucking liars.

Canada handles its border just fine. They are far more worried about an influx of Americans fleeing the US.

/——/ So Trump is threatening tariffs over a problem that Biden and Harris largely caused.
Fixed it for ya, Sparky.

Naw, what caused the problem was 20 years of not fixing our immigration system.

It's going to keep being a problem no matter what Trump does. In fact, he'll probably make it worse.

/——/ Now you’re moving the goal post. I called you out. Biden and Harris had 4 years, and did nothing. Trump fixed it his first term and your clowns unfixed it. Trump is fixing it again and isn’t even in office yet.

We just had an election with the anti-Harris vote largely animated by misplaced resentment over inflation, yet........

Trump’s 10% tariff would annually harm households by at least $1,700: AAF

Damage from a sweeping tariff would spread beyond the U.S., “threatening key relationships with allies and inviting a global trade war,” AAF said.

He's proposing 25% for Canada and Mexico.
/—-/ Trump’s tariffs didn’t cause inflation. Your guy kept most of them and added two more.
Any fake outrage over that?

Actually, Biden did plenty. He deported more people than Trump ever did.

Trump didn't fix jack shit, he had more illegals enter the country than Obama did.

Mexico needs us a hell of a lot more than we need them. They will comply.

Biden had to deport more, he let a shit ton more in.

I wouldn't be so sure about that.

Mexico gives us 69% of our vegetable imports and 51% of our fresh fruit imports.

Biden had to deport more, he let a shit ton more in.

I guess.

Probably because more people came.

The real problem was that Biden didn't want to talk about all the people he was deporting, because he didn't think that would play well with Hispanics. But he deported more than Trump did. Now Trump is realizing he doesn't have the capacity to increase that number, so he's hoping to curtail the number coming in.

I gotta wonder how many investment bankers are going to be willing to invest in building new American manufacturing plants knowing that those plants are only viable because of extraordinary tariffs that can disappear at any time. Their success would wholly depend on a huge government interference in the market and defiance of free market principles.

Besides the products manufactured would not be price competitive internationally - they would rely solely on domestic markets.

Doesn't sound like a good investment to me!

No one built manufacturing plants when Trump was last in office for precisely the reason that they didn’t know what their supply markets or their export markets were going to look like without firm trade deals in place.

Trump is now saying that he’s going to rip up the trade deals he negotiated the first time he was in office. This is why Trump went bankrupt seven times - because he cannot be trusted to honour his commitments. He just tears up your contract whenever he feels like it.

Canada supplies 61% of American oil imports.

The last time Trump unilaterally tore up the NAFTA agreement and instituted tariffs US exports to Canada dropped by $8 billion a year, while US imports from Canada, remainded stable. Wash, rinse, and repeat for Mexico.

For generations, Canadians have had a trade deficit with USA. Since Trump renegotiated NAFTA we have gone from having a trade deficit to a $100 billion trade surplus in goods and materials.

What point is there negotiating trade deals with Donald Trump when he just tears it up whenever he’s in the mood? Why would we even waste our time trying to do so?

Sent to W’s crash of 2008, the rest of the western world has been busy making trading deals which exclude the USA. Justin Trudeau announced yet another new trade deal which was signed during the recent G20.

All of your training partners have been quietly planning and preparing for the possibility of a Trump re-election and the economic chaos which will ensue as a result of his America Alone policies.

Why would we even waste our time trying to please him?

Good point. The USMCA specifically states that tariffs can't be imposed unilaterally.
