Tariffs have been re-established

So, if I understand you, you’re saying that tariffs don’t make much difference then?

It doesn't appear so. When Trump's tariffs were 1st announced, we were told it could bring in $550-$600 billion in revenue for the 1st year but it didn't work out that way. Last I heard, it was only approx $280 billion? Which ain't peanuts but IMHO it ain't enough to get our shorts all twisted. I still don't like tariffs though, and I haven't heard how much the new broadbrush tariffs will bring in.

I’d actually love to see zero from everyone….But we both know that’ll never happen. So, with that being said, I don’t see anything wrong with a little turnabout as fair play. We get benefits from them, as you said billions into our treasury, with little or no downside, and jobs being brought back into the US. Win/Win.

Turnabout is fairplay but I think it should be selective and worth it. Not sure I care about a few million but billions are another story, and I got no problem with using tariffs to stifle certain behaviors like bringing fentanyl and shit like that into the US. I haven't looked into the details but I don't like screwing with our friends and neighbors, like Canada and Mexico. Or Britain and Australia, is it worth it? I don't know.

But in general I believe tariffs are a bad idea cuz the people that end up paying for most of it are the same people that can least afford it. There's gotta be other ways to deal with cheating by other countries, maybe limit their investments over here and restrict where they can put their money.

Does a single person on this board understand that protective tariffs by smaller economies on certain goods is actually a good thing, and that they help keep those economies strong, so that they remain profitable trade partners?

Seems not.
