So Joe... what is the "fair share"???

And the consumption tax actually results in more tax revenue than the income tax because it will be harder to dodge
The ultra wealthy will be able to dodge your tax because they don’t spend as large a percentage of their wealth on consumer goods.

What they do spend money on is stock and real estate transactions.
Let’s hit them there

What is so crazy about an increase from 39 percent to 50 percent?
We have taxed well above that rate in the past and our country prospered
It doesn't solve anything.
I am not one for token show policies that do nothing but score political points.
We would be better served if we had REAL leaders who stand at the podium and state how poorly we have been served, and we have to get the out of drunken overspending and fiscal holocaust.
Some little popular initiative like this is absolutely nothing but popular fluff

You do realize we're talking about a 23% tax on new goods don't you?

Not to mention the money save by abolishing the IRS.

And the revenue lost because people don't report income.

This is the best option IMO.

You can be assured that Defense is still fully funded.

Meanwhile, working Americans have to bear more of the burden for healthcare, education, infrastructure
"Working Americans" have to pay for defense, nimrod. How did you imagine they could get out of paying for healthcare, education, infrastructure?

WTF are you babbling about?
I'm just paraphrasing your idiotic beliefs about taxes. Do you imagine there is some way "working Americans" can get out of paying for healthcare, education, infrastructure or defense?

Afraid they did
With taxes, you get what you are willing to pay for
No you don't. You don't even get 10% of what you pay for.
The US has engaged in supply side economics since 1980 and has reduced spending on infrastructure, public services, education, healthcare. The average worker has seen his wages stagnant as he is expected to pay more out of pocket.

You have to be suffering brain damage if you believe government spending on those items has decreased sin 1980

Solve everything?
Of course not

But it will produce more revenue out of the wealthy
You want to produce more reveneue out of wealthy than you need to start reversing 40 years of runaway corporatism, specifically rubber stamped mergers and acquisitions that grossly concentrated wealth into the hands of fewer and fewer people.
No one should be worth $100's of Billions.
The Walton Family worth est. $250 Billion.
That money used to be spread out among 100,000s of individual small business owners.
Then there is Amazon. The number of places closed surely reaches a million businesses.
That Alone has netted ONE man $187,000,000,000.
His top officers combine into another $10 Billion.

That wealth used to be spread out. And you can bet a LOT more taxes were paid for it.

… And run every sane millionaire in the country to somewhere else? That doesn’t seem smart to me.
The UK raised taxes on the rich in the fifties and sixties, and their rich moved to the USA. Why do you think so many successful British rockers live in the US? Why do you think so many banks are chartered in Delaware? Wealth is fluid and moves to where there are fewest restrictions.

Biden to big corporations and the ultra-wealthy: ‘Pay your fair share’

View attachment 540477
From the above table as found in the following link:
Top 10% of Income taxpayers paid 70.1%
While...61% of Americans paid no federal income taxes in 2020, Tax Policy Center says

So Biden... what is a "FAIR SHARE"???
The top 10% paid $1.122 Trillion of the total $1.601 Trillion paid... 70.1% or a taxable rate of 21.5%
Biden supporters what would be a FAIR share...???
It is all based on the presumption that the collective has first dibs on the fruits of anyone's labor.
