Shouldn't Trump be addressing the nation?

During crises like these, past presidents addressed the nation in order to offer healing and reassure the population.
Why hasn't Trump done it and is he planning on doing it?

I think he should.

State clearly and remind people that he immediately brought in the FBI and DOJ because he was so disturbed by the video. Remind people that both police and the majority of protesters (not rioters) are good citizens and assure citizens that he has ordered the FBI and DOJ to make this their top priority. They will also intervene in any other cases where there is evidence of such violence and/or death.

He can then talk about the fact that rioting is not assisting and any groups behind this will be persecuted to the fullest extent of the law.

Normally I would agree....but anything he says right now will be twisted
for political advantage they are already waiting with prepared condemnations for anything might say as well as condemnations for saying nothing.
Nothing is his best bet.

Jo

May be. Especially since I see CNN urging this to happen. He can remain mostly silent and when it is all eventually over, tell any reporters he wanted to let authorities get a handle on the situation rather than having Fake News do exactly as you suggest and make it worse.

Where are the black leaders at?

Where is Barrack? Can’t the Magic Mulatto make a statement to calm the negro masses?
He is most likely making speeches behind the scenes to rabble-rouse and incite them.

He knows this makes him look even worse than he looked before -- it's extremely weak to stay hidden in the White House while protestors are outside raising hell.

No, President Trump should not address the nation at this time.

He should let the rioters continue to make fools of themselves, thus showing everyone what the nation will be like if their favorite politicians win in November.

He should simply privately communicate with the governors as to what assistance they may need in order to deal with the uprising.

Later on, he can address the nation and mouth all the tired clichés that we expect any President to say at a time like this.

In reality, there is NOTHING to say. Those rioters are speaking volumes. I hope that voters will remember this week when they vote in November.

Addressing the nation serves a purpose only if those you are addressing are willing to listen it doesn't seem like those doing the rioting are

Not willing to listen...........Was Trump willing to listen when people were peacefully protesting? No, he was calling for them to be fired. Was the administration that now claims to be for peaceful protest listening when Pence walked out when a person kneeled?

What exactly are people suppose to hear out of Trump? That they are on occasion going to simply have to accept a callous disregard for human life out of an officer now and then? That when a police officers lies and gets someone killed it's for our own good?

How much different would things be today if instead of calling for those peacefully protesting to be fired, Trump had called them to the White House to seriously listen to their concerns?

Yes, you are going to have to live with the occasional callus cop killing a black man. This is a nation of 330 million people, murders are going to happen, and mistakes will be made by cops once in while. You expect cops to never make a mistake, or for them to never cross the line when put in the crazy situations they are put in everyday. Far more black people are shot everyday by black gang bangers, you seem to be able to live with that. Far more white people are killed by cops than black people are, you seem to be able to live with that. So yes, in such a large nation with such a large population of blacks that commit crimes at higher rates than any other group, some bad shit is going to occasionally happen. If you can’t accept that fact, then you’re a retard and cannot be reasoned with.

Nope. It's not going to simply be accepted. This will continue. Is it really worth letting a murderous cop off in exchange for millions in damages? That's going to be the trade.

So how do you propose to end all future cases of police brutality?

And why haven’t Democrat Presidents, governors, mayors, and police chiefs thought of this before?

I can’t wait to hear this perfect plan that will make all cops always perfect in detail.

Nobody is saying that all future cases can be stopped. What people are demanding is that when it does happen the cop doesn't get the system make excuses for him and cover it up.It appears someone lied to a judge to get a warrant on Breonna Taylor.

When that happens we have fewer issues. If I lie to a judge, I'm in trouble.

But if you prefer logical fallacies.

So how did the system make an excuse for the Floyd cop? Floyd died on May 25th, the next day the cops were fired and on the 29th the cop was charged, even though the preliminary autopsy said Floyd didn’t die of asphyxiation. There was no cover up, and they barely even started the investigation. It will still take several months for a full autopsy report.

The riots are a culmination of acts the last few months. Floyd simply shows that the police still haven't got the message.

It was initially said that it would take months to investigate what happened to Floyd. That is simply code for "we are going to delay this until the anger does down".

Well, it didn't take months did it?

Cop's Knee Was on George Floyd's Neck for Almost 9 Minutes | News ...

Considering
'taking a knee' is how Floyd was killed....

Are protestors sure 'taking a knee' is the symbol they want associated with their protest? How about 'Take a STAND, not a Knee'?!

The culmination but more importantly that there is no natl elected leader pointing out that his was the third incidence in the past couple of weeks that, if there hadn't been citizens videotaping, white people would have used govt power to kill or threaten black men who just being there. That may not excuse violence, but it not comparable to Charlottesville where white men used violence to intimidate "non-combatants," and we have a president who cannot bring himself to condemn the latter but wants to label the former as "terrorism."

This is Analog Joe's moment, but I doubt he's really up to the challange

All he cares about is keeping his base happy, and they're enjoying this.

So, no need. But he's been pretty good at threatening protesters with violence, so there's that.

When the President addresses the nation snowflakes say he should shut up, attack him, and call him a liar. When he is not addressing the nation as much as usual, they say he should be addressing the nation.

Did you just get out of the basement this morning?

Many republicans from Trump on down have condemned the murder of Mr. Floyd, I as an Independent have condemned the stupid incompetent cops who badly mishandled the victim. I have been in several threads here showing WHY the cops screwed up, that it was murder.

Gauvin has been charged with Murder, there will be a trial with intent to put him in Prison for life.

You lied about Garner, you are here to lie about this too, you are a pathetic man, I corrected you in a thread, you ignored it.
