Publishers are certainly open about what they are looking for in a new writer. It's LGBTQ voices. The perspectives of blacks and Latinos. It's the political voice of the virtue signaling. It's just that these are not universally popular views. If a new writer has that mystery, boy meets girl love story, the next action thriller, the grit of political reality, they self publish.
