He never controlled it or there would not be an ongoing civil war there.

His own defense chief today said they are pulling back to secure it so obviously they don't think it's very secure.

That he admitted was their number one on their priority list for day one of the invasion was to secure Donbas and obviously they haven't.

Ukrainian forces have now driven back Russian units across the border into Russia and several border villigages on the Russian side had to be evacuated as the shelling continues to follow the evacuating Russian troops.

Now Russians can begin paying a price for this misadventure as more units are pushed back and evacuated to Russian Soil.

That is silly since the Donetsk is over 93% ethnic Russian, and the only way Kyiv maintained control was by murdering over 14,000 ethnic Russians in the Donetsk.
The Donetsk is not traditionally or historically part of the Ukraine, but was always Russian until Khrushchev, the Ukrainian, gave it to the Ukraine in 1955, for no logical reason.

No where has the Ukraine defeated any Russian advance.
There is only one suburb of Kyiv that the Ukraine has retaken, and that is because the Russian troop left, to be deployed elsewhere.

• He's forcing the EU to break with the US on sanctions.
• Forcing the EU to stop using Euros/Dollars to pay for oil
