One could stage a pretty good debate on the whole concept of "Social Justice." Can it even exist? Does it exist?

The word "justice" implies a balancing of merit and reward, or fault and punishment. Justice exists where INDIVIDUALS are appropriately rewarded for their accomplishments and punished (or alternatively sanctioned) for their misdeeds. The bank robber who is sentenced to X years in prison for robbing a bank experiences "justice," as defined by the Peoples' Representatives in Congress or the State legislature - which is the best measure of penal justice that we have. A Rhodes Scholar experiences justice when rewarded for his or her academic accomplishments. To give that award to someone who is academically undeserving would be an injustice.

So how can the concept of "justice" be applied to masses of people? Is it "just" to give a college scholarship or a job offer to a Person of Color, simply because of their race or ethnicity? That's what Social Justice advocates. What if the person is the child of Barack Obama? What if the POC is lazy and undeserving? What sort of "justice" would that be, considering that the scholarship or job offer was denied to people who were actually worthy?

If you look at the fact of "inequality" of certain populations as proof of the lack of Social Justice, have you considered other reasons for the observed inequality? Poor decision-making? Rejection of the Middle Class Work Ethic? Genetic factors? Endemic petty criminality? Like it or not, you might find that a large percentage of the wretched group are manifestly deserving of their unequal status. In effect, their poverty is "just." No social injustice at all.

And how preposterous is it to have a delegation of NBA players - individuals who are paid a virtual King's Ransom for playing a child's game - represents the cause of Social Justice to the World? How has life been unjust to them?
