Obama going pro pot?

what do you think will happen if weed is legalized? It's common sense there will be more users, and since is well documented that weed is in fact a gateway drug, we'll have more people using harder drugs.

Except that was debunked decades ago. Most drug addicts started using tobacco first, next it was alcohol.

Why don't you tell me how it the Kids we want to protect. It's just gonna make it easer for them to get it, right????????

Debunked??? By who???

You make it more accessible, more people will use it. Does that not make sense?
Do you think more pot smokers is a good thing for our society?

The facts. Most addicts did start using drugs first by using marijuana. Most started with cigarettes.

Anyone who wants to use marijuana can. Of course it comes at a hidden cost, with countless dead people around the world in the name of the War on Drugs. But we here in the States don't have to shoulder that cost or be exposed to it, unless you live in a border town. Yes I think legalizing cannabis will be a good thing for our society. The ill effect on society from its' use pales in comparison to the effects the laws have had in the 77 years of its' fascist prohibition.

The war on drugs doesn't end with the legalization of pot.

The war on drugs doesn't end with the legalization of pot.

It will be the beginning of the end of a horribly draconian policy that has cost us dearly.

There have been numerous studies that have concluded marihuana is a gateway drug, supported by a plethora of testimonials given by drug addicts themselves. If it's inconceivable to someone that there is a correlation then that person holds a different opinion to those in the medical community and those that specialize in treating addiction.
That's entirely ******* retarded. Why do you even try?

To Hell with studies one way or the other and just look at the time period from 1942 to 1945 WHEN MARIHUANA WAS LEGALIZED TO SAVE THE WORLD.

Marihuana was outlawed in 1937. Cops had to start arresting people for having flowers in their pocket. Entire fields were cut down and left to rot, unused by American workers for the first time in human history. Thousands of American jobs shifted away from sustainable agriculture. American corporations began importing cheaper fibers from Asia where workers have no rights. This lasted for five years. On December 7, 1941, the US fleet at Pearl Harbor was attacked and the US became officially involved in World War II. There was just one problem- we didn't have any legal weed for the military like we had in every other war.

America had outlawed industrial hemp as the evil drug scourge Marihuana, so the Navy was screwed. The solution? Legalize the most addictive, dangerous gateway drug ever known. The result? We stopped global genocide and preserved freedom and democracy for future generations like yours.

This was a good opportunity for him to warn all the young people about the dangers of any substance and caution them on how choosing to smoke pot or drink can ruin their future. Instead he acts like it's no big deal. His comments about how he did it as a youth might be taken as encouragement for young people to emulate him. Is this the advice he gives his daughters and his pretend son?

If we have any leaders left in this country, the message should be that legalizing pot for people with painful illnesses is the only reason to even consider it. Don't put a stamp of approval for recreation use or kids will try it even if they wouldn't have before. If the president seems to give his okay, that can influence young people. The left seems to adore Obama and take him at his word, so how do you feel about him telling your children that he smoked pot and it's really no big deal? In his book, he admitted to doing narcotics, so maybe that's no big deal, either.

Right legalizing weed is going to cure cancer, end our energy woes and become the catalyst to world peace. Light me up.

I think you are blowing this out of proportion. During the interview Obama stated that he was not encouraging the legalization of pot nor it's illegal usage.

Obama's only perceivable encouraging of the drug came forth when he said he didn't believe those caught using the drug should be punished as heavily as those distributing and selling it.

I believe that this is the right approach as most of the people using the drug aren't quite considered menaces of society. Although I could not say the same for those who produce, distribute, and sell the drug, whether it be to ill educated children or understanding adults.

Obama also said that the legalization of pot could lead to controversy surrounding other drugs that in certain doses are in comparison to the health risks of alcohol.

The war on drugs doesn't end with the legalization of pot.
But it's a good start. Because once the general public discovers that all the Reefer Madness propaganda they've been fed is utter nonsense and boldface lies their mind will be open to the truth about the futility of the War on Drugs -- which has been going on for decades with absolutely no productive effect. In fact the drug war is a significantly harmful and wastefully costly debacle that benefits none but the drug warriors.

The fact is it is well-documented that the "gateway" myth is complete nonsense.

You would do well to educate yourself, because you have been effectively brainwashed by Reefer Madness propaganda.

Google these keywords and learn: Gateway Drug Nonsense

Oh and not to state the obvious, but your peanuts are more dangerous than weed statement is one of the dumbest things ever posted on this forum.
You really are a hardcore example of a brainwashed anti-pot warrior.

First, if you don't believe peanuts kill those who are allergic to them, read this: Years of caution about peanut allergy fails to save teen who died at Camp Sacramento - Health and Medicine - The Sacramento Bee

After you read that, try to find one medically certified example of anyone dying from or being made sick by marijuana. What you will find is there are none. Not one. Marijuana is absolutely benign.

But if you choose to remain ignorant that is your problem and I will have nothing more to do with you because you are a lost cause.

That's the point. He is salivating for more shit to tax and regulate.

The far left is ok with taxation of Mary J, but don't want any regulations on it.
So kosh, it sounds like you approve of the government regulating pot. Strange .... don't you think. On every other thread here you are screaming about government regulating our rights away and now you are complaining about no regulation of pot. It is kind of like if the government says yes, you say no. And if the government says no, you scream yes.

Well marijuana has let to cancer remission. Its taxes could go towards funding our nuclear program and in a perfect world free energy would be the first step towards world peace.

But on a more serious note,i want the government to stay the hell out of my life. If i wanna get drunk in my house they shouldn't be able to stop me. If i wanna get stoned and watch netflix they shouldn't be able to stop me.

Will legalizing weed lead to more people smoking? Probably.

But that's a price I'm willing to pay to stop the needless waste of money on this "war on drugs". Do some research into the current US prison situation. The amount of money being wasted on people in jail for pot would surprise you.

And yes weed is a gateway drug, so is caffeine, tobacco, and alcohol. BAN THEM ALL!!!

And you are hopelessly ignorant because you choose to be. All you need to do to learn the facts is do a simple Google search. The evidence is there. But you wish to remain ignorant of the facts.

so many of you idiots. Pot is dangerous and deadly. it just doesn't end your life quickly and yet still many of you fools think it is good for you because it doesn't kill you quick.

The Netherlands decriminalized marijuana use in 1976. The only increase they've noted is by tourists. Use has not increased in the adult population, and use by adolescents has actually decreased, probably because the lure of the illicit factor has been eliminated. It's legal now and the kids aren't so fascinated by it anymore. So why should we expect a different result?

I lived in New York City during the sixties and seventies when marijuana was decriminalized and readily available. There were "head-shops" everywhere and people were openly growing it in their back yards. But there were absolutely no indications of increased usage, either by adults or by adolescents.

Also, if there is any harm associated with marijuana use it is because of its illegality, which makes crops contaminated with toxic and carcinogenic pesticides and growth hormones available. Legalization not only will eliminate this problem but will make a wide variety of edible marijuana products available, which over time will significantly reduce smoking as the most common means of enjoying cannabis. The only reason these edibles are not available now is prohibition.

And yes weed is a gateway drug, so is caffeine, tobacco, and alcohol. BAN THEM ALL!!!

How many of you idiots thinks marijuana is good for you?

Beer isnt good for me but im glad it's consumption is my choice.

so? What the **** has that to do with what I asked?

I DO! One hit a day around 6:00. That and weightlifting are my two most efficient stress relief activities.

Also everyone with medical problems that went from popping 15 pills a day to smoking weed probably think it's good for them.

How many of you idiots thinks marijuana is bad for you?

We're a couple years away from pot being legalized across the country. The government wants the tax dollars and they're willing to sacrifice our culture for the money.

Do you think that legalizing it will make more people do it? I think that it may initially but I think that the number will eventually fade to the current numbers. It may turn into a "legal"(taxed) vs. "illegal" (untaxed) issue and may drive the prices down from the "legal" sellers in order to compete against the "illegal" sellers. Not everyone drinks alcohol and not everyone smokes cigarettes and they are readily available and legal.

As someone who smokes bud i can tell you from experience that it is a gateway drug. I don't need research studies to tell me what i have already seen.

The more you smoke the more likely it is that you will be put in a position where someone will offer you harder drugs. To me that's a gateway drug.

Now will smoking weed made it more likely that you get addicted to coke or heroine? I doubt it.

But anyone who smokes on regular bases knows that buying bud leads to offers of buying harder drugs.

For Barack Obama to say marijuana is harmful in any way is laughably and ironically hypocritical. Because he has publicly admitted that he smoked marijuana "frequently" -- and he has become President of The United States.

It is well-known that Obama is a boldface liar and an artful bullshitter, but isn't this bullshit a bit extreme?
