NYT: We Were Wrong About Marijuana

Years ago I partook quite often. It made me paranoid, and lazy. I found I couldn’t carry on a decent conversation that didn’t sound like Beevis and Butthead.

After a couple years of that I stopped using it.

More recently I have tried it again and found no difference. Still paranoid. Still unproductive. Still dumb.

That said I have many friends who use and it doesn’t affect them that way. At least not so it shows

Apparently like alcohol it affects different people differently

Criminalizing either is stupid though.

I think people just need to be honest about what it is and what it does

You posted it has to go through a man made process to extract and refine. Which is what I have been saying.
Cocaine alkaloids are not cocaine. Cocaine is refined and processed.
Let me post what google says that you disagreed with.

Is cocaine alkaloid the same as cocaine?

Yes, cocaine is a type of tropane alkaloid, meaning they are essentially the same substance, with "alkaloid" referring to its chemical classification.
Cocaine (the specific compound) is the primary psychoactive alkaloid found in the coca plant, which is then processed into various forms like hydrochloride or freebase.

  • Definition: Cocaine is a tropane alkaloid, a naturally occurring organic compound containing nitrogen.
  • Source: It is derived from the Erythroxylum coca plant.
  • Forms: The term "alkaloid" refers to the molecule itself, while "cocaine" usually refers to the purified white powder (cocaine hydrochloride) or crack cocaine (freebase) consumed, which are different physical forms of the same alkaloid.
In summary, cocaine is a specific, purified alkaloid.
