I realized that the GOP were basically useless when it was reported that Paul Ryan apparently convinced Trump not to accept the Schumer wall money ($5B or so) during the shutdown when Trump when in power. CNN and others were talking about how expensive $5B is, what a comical argument as the U.S has 34,000B of debt.

If that was the kind of guy who is high in their party, I understood then why McCain and Romney were viewed as so feckless. It is really unfortunate.
