(The next Taliban Mission to open might very well be in Washington DC. And we thought the Ground Zero Mosque was inappropriate? Dontcha just love it? 2012 can't come soon enough.)

Based on a Times (UK) report that I can’t find online, the news this morning is that the United States has approved a plan to let the Taliban open a “political headquarters” in Qatar. The Daily Mail story reports: “The Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan is likely to open a base in Qatar before Christmas, The Times said.” Further: “The Gulf state is believed to have agreed to let the group have a base after Washington decided that it should be located away from the influence of Pakistan.”
I hesitate to say more until some reliable report confirms that the Obama administration actually supports this scheme. At this point I will only say that, if true, I suppose we have to be happy that the administration hasn’t invited the Taliban to set up shop in the United States."
