A few years ago, a wise man wrote "If your nation's history doesn't make you cringe, you're being lied to".

Those who do not know their history, are condemned to repeat it. Every forty years or so the USA erupts in racial violence of some sort, and it's happening again now. Usually when some populist, like George Wallace or Trump wants to turn back the clock, and starts flogging the issue.

Canada has had Truth and Reconciliation Hearings for Residential School survivors and now has a Truth and Reconciliation Day annually as a remembrance of what happened. The USA hasn't even acknowledged the harms and deaths at your residential schools. Is the Trail of Tears even taught in our schools.

Canada didn't murder our indigenous peoples, we just stole their land, gave them smallbox and TB, kidnapped their children and murdered them, and left them to drink themselves to death on squalid reservations.

As a child I knew about the Residential Schools and thought it was terrible to take the children away from their parents, but at least they were living at church schools. The churches would look after them, thinking about the kindly people at my church when my father died, always helping me and my mother, and how the children were cared for there when we went to church on Sunday.
