Was this outcome anticipated? If it wasn't, why not?

“The key question is, why is the market rallying despite this large release? First, there are no signs of de-escalation in the Persian Gulf, so there is no end in sight to the disruptions to oil flows through the Strait of Hormuz,” strategists at Dutch bank ING said in a research note published Thursday.

“As we have said repeatedly, the only way to see oil prices trade lower on a sustained basis is by getting oil flowing through the Strait of Hormuz. Failing to do so means that the market highs are still ahead of us,” they added.

That is the ballgame at the moment. If Iran can keep the strait blocked to maritime traffic oil goes higher and the world's economies suffer. Full stop.

You have to be a moron not to have understood this would happen in the aftermath of the attack. But somehow, the regime didn't.

How do you know they did not know oil would increase in price?

Iraq and Oman closed oil terminals on Thursday after two tankers were attacked and left burning off Iraq’s coast, as the International Energy Agency warned that the war in the Middle East had caused “the largest supply disruption in the history of the global oil market.”

Oil prices initially surged despite a coordinated effort by the United States and other major economies to calm markets by pledging on Wednesday to release 400 million barrels of oil from their emergency reserves.

Fighting has displaced up to 3.2 million people inside Iran, the United Nations refugee agency said on Thursday, as the human toll of the conflict rose. Almost 2,000 people have been killed since the start of the U.S.-Israeli assault, mostly in Iran. The Israeli military said that it had launched a new wave of strikes in the country, targeting government infrastructure.

Why was trump dancing on stage yesterday?

Why can't you understand the price of oil is set by a global marketplace? If oil is in short supply around the world domestic production levels don't matter much. The US is already a net exporter of oil but that hasn't stopped WTI crude from going much higher. $91 a barrel this morning, up 4+%. It will continue to go higher as long as Iran is able to maintain its blockade of the strait.
True. The blockade ends or Iran ends. Iran needs to choose wisely.

Don't you think Iran's leadership knows the country is vulnerable to more bombing? I'm not sure more attacks will be persuasive.

Me neither, but its the best card we have to play, drastic as it is.
The new leader is very inexperienced, I'm not sure he's in control.
Its tough to say if the radicals would rather see Iran as a "failed state" as opposed to surrendering gracefully.

From what I've read his dad (who was 86) was just a figurehead over quite some period of time. Junior has been running the country from behind the scenes.

The more bombs that fall my guess is the more the citizens rally around the government.

Before the war there were major protests, the government killed 32,000 protesters, so there are two camps in Iran.
The crazy Jihadis who control the government and the guns
The sane Iranians who want peace and prosperity, possibly Reza Pahlovi to be involved to help with the transition

Here is the guy we're dealing with.

As noted by former Justice Scalia, the 2nd A does not prevent the regulation of guns. If it did an assault weapons ban would not have become law.

Ok, but that wasn’t related to the answer I gave.

However, considering the assault weapons ban, why did they put a 10 year sunset provision in it?

Even if trump came out today and said the war is over Iran is going to want to make us pay.

Maersk, a bellwether for global trade, suspends two key shipping services due to Iran war

Danish shipping giant Maersk on Friday temporarily suspended two services linking the Middle East to Asia and Europe as the Iran war continues to disrupt global supply chains.

The company, widely regarded as a barometer of global trade, said the decision to halt the FM1 service, connecting the Far East to the Middle East, and the ME11 Service, linking the Middle East to Europe, was a precautionary measure to ensure the safety of its personnel and vessels.

It comes as the U.S. and Israeli-led war on Iran enters its seventh day, with the expanding conflict resulting in the effective halt of shipping traffic through the strategically vital Strait of Hormuz.

The waterway is a key, narrow maritime corridor that connects the Persian Gulf and the Gulf of Oman. Roughly 20% of global oil and gas typically passes through it.

Container shipping giants, however, have suspended operations through the Strait of Hormuz since the U.S. and Israel launched attacks on Iran on Feb. 28 and rerouted vessels around the southern tip of Africa.

WTI crude tops $86, hits highest level since April 2024, Brent crude breaks above $89 a barrel

Iran borders the Straight of Hormuz, through which 20% of the world's oil is shipped. Anyone familiar with the geography of the region knows this. And they knew how disruptive to shipping through the straight an attack on Iran would be. You'd have to be a moron not to understand this.

Begging the question, is the inevitable impact of trump's war with Iran the reason he did not take the legal route of seeking the approval of Congress to start it? Is it part of the plan?

Or one could ask, was a spike in the price of oil anticipated but dismissed as a price to be paid by US consumers (like the tariffs have been) worthy of the end game? I guess we'd have to know what the end game is before answering that question. Was it regime change?

Son of Khamenei Is Top Contender for Supreme Leader

Mojtaba Khamenei would likely lead country in even more hard-line direction

If it was, the war trump unnecessarily started was a reckless roll of the dice. The narrative for the rationale to start the war has constantly shifted leaving the timing of the off ramp in doubt. If Khamenei's kid becomes the leader does the war go on until he is killed too? Do we keep killing Iran's chosen leader until they pick one the master of regime change likes? If oil breaks over $90 a barrel does that change the calculus for ending the war?

Are members of the regime asking themselves these questions? Or is the US hostage to an oft used approach of trump's he has articulated quite often?

Trump’s catchphrase for any circumstance: “We’ll see”

WASHINGTON (AP) — When in doubt, President Donald Trump has a ready-made response to any questions: “We’ll see.”

On Wednesday, Trump delivered his go-to line repeatedly. Asked if he would tie debt ceiling legislation to Harvey relief: “We’ll see.” On his plans for an increasingly aggressive North Korea: “We’ll see.” And on efforts to work with the Chinese president: “We’ll see how that works out.”

President Trump has broken you.

You are nothing more than a steaming pile of butthurt.

I love it!

No, there are not many hurdles to overcome. You banned AR style weapons before and you can do it again.

Which was still unconstitutional. “Shall not be infringed” means something.

You can stop just giving guns to anyone who wants one and start controlling who gets them. That’s what background checks are for except you keep looking for ways to encourage idiots to buy guns.

We do background checks. Every dealer where you buy a gun, you have to do a federal background check. There’s not much you can do about private sales, there is no law and you’d never be able to enforce it anyway.

How are we encouraging people to buy guns?

You realize a weapons ban would only affect law abiding citizens right? criminals tend not to care about the laws.

There are any number of things that you could be doing but you’re not. Even the right to worship as you see fit is limited. Blood sacrifices are illegal. Female gender mutilation is illegal. These are solid religious practises in some parts of the world that your First Amendment freedom of religion clause would seem to allow.

Where, in America, are blood sacrifices or female gender mutilation allowed?

You completely ignore the “well regulated militia” caveat in the 2nd Amendmen and hinge everything on the notion that access to weapons must not be “infringed”.

The cotus doesn’t say the militia needs to be armed, it says the people need to be armed. The militia is not the military.

But you have no problem, infringing on the rights of religious people who believe in blood sacrifice.

Human sacrifice is not a practiced part of any religion today, except for a very rare instance in Africa. Most blood sacrifices are animal sacrifices, and I’ll say it like this, if you can find an animal in America who is part of said religion, and verbally gives his consent to be a part of an animal sacrifice, then by all means, let them do it…..

Where do you get these ridiculous notions? The USA is in no position to "end Iran", nor will the Iranian people ever accept US control of their country ever again. You really need to understand the history between Iran and the USA which is one of the USA imposing their will on Iran to a very bad result for the Iranian people.

The Shah of Iran, who the USA installed as the ruler of Iran in 1953, killed more than 100,000 of his own people, while the USA helped him stay on the throne.

The murder of school children in the US bombing has hardened the resistance of the Iranian people against you. As bad as the Mullahs have been, the USA has been WORSE.

YOU should have never started up again with this country.

Wrong, as always. Trump has broken the USA. Your country is in the toilet and the waters are swirling.

The USA is the only nation in the first world where the people think that their fellow citizens are demons and bad people. A house divided against itself, cannot stand.

And you're cheering your own downfall. Stupid is as stupid does, and you're one of the dumbest.

Look at this KKKanadian halfwit. It thinks the state of the USA is determined by a couple of lefty polls.

GDP up
Inflation down 20%
Unemployment low
Record stock markets
Secure border
Numerous wars ended
Numerous trade deals done
Iran nukes gone
Maduro gone

But hey, this moron thinks some dumbass’s response to a poll question is an indicator of the American economy.

Go fix your irrelevant, shithole country, Simp.

Don't know. Look it up.

You brought it up.

Also, the ban only affected the sale to civilians of weapon made after the ban, existing weapons were not affected.

How many shootings happen by someone who goes out and buys an AR15 for that purpose? Likely they are buying them from private sales or stealing them.
