Kennedy Center threatens to sue musician who canceled concert after Trump's name added to building

Ordinarily I would say that they had an arguable case. As with most trump grifts he is just looking for a payout.
However the trump gimp making the case seems to be out of touch with reality.
You cant get compo for poor ticket sales. Tickets sell or dont at the whim of the public. Thats just the risk you take.
In fact the artist could argue that the name itself is off putting and people of culture re unllikely to want an association with a racist cult.
The Klan Pavillion is unlikely to pack em in.
Just another example of everything Trump touches turning to shit.

Art and the appreciation of art is highly subjective. Once a set of parameters are agreed upon, sure you can have comparative value placed on it, parameters such as cultural values. Would you say that art produced by European artists is objectively superior to art produced by African artists? Europeans might say so while Africans might say the complete opposite. You can say that art within a genre can have disparate value, that's true. One does wonder why a Jackson Pollack canvas is worth more than a 6-year-old's finger painting.

It's differing appreciation for differing art. Ever see how much conservatives pay for country music concerts, cowboy memorabilia, western wear, etc.? All of that is art. What you're complaining about is they don't value the same art in the same way that you do.
Art is subjective. It’s also not subjective.

It’s telling that your only examples of conservative art are country music and cowboy boots. That’s it.

And that is the point. I get the feeling that there are posters on this board that think the artist should suffer no consequences for cancelling at a late date if TRUMP! is somehow involved in his decision.
Inversely if tickets are half of what they were, as is being claimed by the current management itself, that itself may be a reason for the artist to cancel.

Why? Those are only examples of what some people appreciate, the point being that they place a higher value on things you consider of lower value. They also consider the art that you think is of high value to not be all that important. Neither they nor you are right or wrong.

That wasn't the reason he gave, however. He literally complained about TRUMP!'s name being on the building.

JP Saxe (2025): Cancelled his entire 32-date North American tour, admitting on social media he needed to sell thousands more tickets to make it viable and felt "extremely embarrassed".

Trumps name on the building caused the low ticket sales.

No, that was the liberal media that made it all about politics and then the liberal performers followed suit.
Everyone knows the orange piece of shit is a great patron of the arts. ;)

People appreciate Hallmark films too, but obviously they’re not of the same artistic value as Lawrence of Arabia.

Several buildings, primarily residential complexes in New York City like the Trump Place buildings (140, 160, 180 Riverside Blvd) and the former Trump SoHo hotel, have removed the Trump name due to resident petitions

estimates suggesting dozens of properties globally have de-branded,
it involves various hotels, condos, and developments ending licensing deals or being renamed by new owners.

I'm not seeing the downside.

Wasn't this supposed to be a free concert? I thought somebody tried to make that point to say the artist shouldn't be sued for damages.
