America Broke Something When It Gave Trump a Second Chance

The Heritage Foundation’s ā€œMandate for Leadership: The Conservative Promiseā€ — popularly known as Project 2025 — was much more than a wish list of conservative policy preferences. It was much more, even, than a blueprint for a second Trump administration.

Project 2025 was, above all, a statement of values and a theory of governance. Its authors did not simply want to move national policymaking to the right. They wanted to use the authority of the executive branch to impose a new regime on the United States.

ā€œWe are in the process of the second American Revolution,ā€ declared Kevin Roberts, president of the Heritage Foundation, the summer before the 2024 election. This revolution, he added, ā€œwill remain bloodless if the left allows it.ā€ Russell Vought, who leads the Office of Management and Budget and was, like Roberts, a key architect of Project 2025, also spoke publicly about the need for a ā€œradical constitutionalismā€ and a tribune-like president who would dismantle the New Deal state, sell the scrap and return the nation to the status quo ante of the 19th century.

Much of the disruption and destruction of the past year and change is downstream of the revolutionary orientation of Roberts, Vought and the other alumni of Project 2025 who have taken up places in and around the Trump administration. To observe the aggrandizement of power in the executive, the decimation of the federal bureaucracy, the destruction of much of the nation’s medical, scientific and public health infrastructure and the broad attack on racial and gender equality is to see the many faces of a furious effort to restructure the existing nation to match the one envisioned by these far-right ideologues.

To the extent polls can be believed, the agenda trump has forced on America, despite claiming he knew nothing of it (and hiring one of its main architects).............

'I have nothing to do with Project 2025,' Trump says

..........is wildly unpopular with a majority of Americans. No matter, the regime forges ahead with a plan to turn the politics of the New Deal in to the Old Deal. Gutting environmental protections and advancements in minority representation, restricting access to abortions, illegally blocking admission to asylum seekers, gerrymandering its way to power, illegally trying to repeal birthright citizenship, and using illegal means to deport immigrants.

The degree to which Americans push back against these immoral, unconstitutional, unwanted, and dangerous initiatives may define what kind of country we have for the next 50 years. If the pushback is not methodical, effective, and severe the US will become unrecognizable as the beacon of liberal democracy to the world it has been for 250 years.

That's very true. But I won't be shocked if there's not enough will. We're not what I thought. We're not what the world thought.

That's been the lesson here.

It is very unpopular and with that being the case, the odds are high that once again the Democrats run someone the people just can't support.

Yea it broke Democrats.

Hunger and not having a roof over your head will cause far more problems. We are rife with corruption. And it is from the top down. Citizens who play by the rules are the suckers. It is so ad, government at times has to expand social programs due to just on the number of people involved in stealing, graft and corruption.

berg how many of these stories that you get sent every day do you get to pick from?...just curious...
The fax machine in the basement is working overtime, for sure. He must have absolutely nothing else to do.

There's too much self-interest and not enough self-sacrifice. We've become spoiled, complacent, apathetic, and disengaged at a time when we need to be more vigilant than ever about keeping a hold on what has been achieved from those who mean to take it away.

There has always been a Leninist component to Trumpism. The whole idea behind Trumpism is to bring down the system which was exactly what the Leninist accomplished to the incipient Russian Republic in 1917 before the on-set of the Soviet State.

Trumpists want a deconstruction of the American state and to reformulate it for the aggrandizement of a single individual. I mean we have never had a president who was so hell bent on creating a cult of personality.

True Americans need to push back against this abuse of power. Trump will attempt to rig and cheat in the upcoming elections but will be thwarted by the will of the people to get this country on the right track in the next elections.

It will take a generation to fix the damage Trumpism has inflicted on this nation and the reputation of the American nation.

No party in American history has displayed as many Stalinist tendencies as the current Democrats.
It's jaw dropping how open they are about it too.

That's an interesting observation since not so long ago the chances of someone like trump of launching a campaign for prez, let alone winning a single primary, were zero.

How did we get to the point where people "just can't support" a more or less traditional D candidate but vote for an incompetent, morally bankrupt, ignorant, narcissist on the R side?

Your party hasn't run a "more or less traditional" candidate since Hubert Humphrey. :rolleyes-41:

The Democrats are so Far Left now, truth in advertising law should insist they call themselves communists.

Boy, I hope it's only one generation.

And throughout all of this, he's convinced his flock that when HE wins, THEY win. They still think they're getting something real out of the collapse of our institutions.

Nothing assists the advancement of autocracy like the chaos created by dismantling a country's institutional norms.
