Kennedy Center threatens to sue musician who canceled concert after Trump's name added to building

Good luck with that. You should contact Doug and tell him to save his $40,000
You have a comprehension problem.
The $40,000 represents revenue loss.
Like ripping up a third-tier mega millions lottery ticket.

Nah, it's more like you ripping off your male prostitute and his pimp demanding $40,000 or he'll take your teacup pomeranian

Which would render the venue not liable to actually pay the artists? Somehow, I don't think that legal opinion is going to hold water.
Interesting. Personally, I have no idea, it's just something that I read that someone else said.
Concerts get cancelled all of the time for various reasons. Suing for a million bucks seems juvenile.

Sure, if the cancellation falls under one of the stipulations in the contract. Often the artist reschedules.

Plus the rule of contracts means the one who changes the conditions of the contract, is the one who suffers the effects, not the other party.
So changing the name, can void the contract if the innocent party chooses to, but changing the name doesn't let that party out of it's contractual obligations.

In short, if you made the changes, that doesn't let you off the hook. But if I object to the changes it let's me off the hook.

So, we're back to square one. The contract is with the John F. Kennedy Center for the arts.

If one party unilaterally changes contract conditions, the change is generally not enforceable unless the original contract explicitly allowed it (like in some Terms of Service) or specific legal exceptions apply; otherwise, it can lead to a breach of contract, contract rescission (cancellation), or reformation (rewriting)

A name change isn't going to invalidate the contract. If the artist is released, so is the venue, and they wouldn't have to pay him. Do you think that's going to hold water?

All I know is that both of us will be able to see what happens.
Now that Donald's name is on it, non-payment would be likely to follow anyway. He's kind of famous for that.

The contract was with a corporation headed by honest reputable people, with artistic knowledge and integrity.

The Trump-Kennedy center is headed by a convicted felon and sexual abuser.

That kind of change can void a contract.

Cite a contract that is voided due a change in ownership. Does your credit card bill become invalid when the bank gets bought out by another one? You could just as easily say the contract for a concert is voided by the band getting new management. Good luck making that case.

Waiting for your proof of donation.
Kristy Lee, who was scheduled to perform Jan. 14, announced her cancellation on Instagram, saying canceling shows hurts, ā€œbut losing my integrity would cost me more than any paycheck.ā€

ā€œWhen American history starts getting treated like something you can ban, erase, rename, or rebrand for somebody else’s ego, I can’t stand on that stage and sleep right at night,ā€ said Lee, who described herself as "just a folk singer from Alabama."

Here's someone else you can demean cuz you haven't heard of her who is also canceling for all the right reasons.

Are you going to virtue signal on USMB but never really act on donating to this nobody as well?

That's her choice if she wants to handle the consequences and no, it doesn't impact me at all. How heartbroken are you that you won't be able to see her that night?

BackAgain, looks like you’re predicting Redd will end up paying the Kennedy Center more than zero pennies, or that a judge will order him to do so. Can you confirm?

Once you confirm, let’s make our own contract you and I. If the Trump Center doesn’t get paid, more than one penny, you will admit that you were the one ā€œignorant about legal mattersā€ one.
I’ll call myself legally ignorant if Redd isordered to pay or even settles for more than one penny.

Do we have a deal?
This isn’t your retarded prediction forum, jackass.

Democratic US representative Joyce Beatty of Ohio sued Donald Trump on Monday to seek the removal of his name from the John F Kennedy Center for Performing Arts in Washington DC.

The lawsuit from Beatty, an ex-officio trustee on the board, argued that the vote to rename the Kennedy Center is a ā€œflagrant violationā€ of law as congressional approval is required for such an action.

ā€œCongress intended the Center to be a living memorial to President Kennedy – and a crown jewel of the arts for all Americans, irrespective of party. Unless and until this Court intervenes, Defendants will continue to defy Congress and thwart the law for improper ends,ā€ read the complaint.

I can think of a few buildings more appropriate for trump's name.
