Forty years in elected office During his first 5 years in the Senate Biden focused on consumer protection and environmental issues wanting greater government control.
In a 1974 interview with the Washingtonian, Biden described himself as a liberal on civil rights and liberties and healthcare.
In 1984, as the Democratic Floor Manager he passed the Comprehensive Crime Control Act, however, because of controversy on the left, he later called this legislative accomplishment his biggest mistake.
Biden voted for a mandated policy that deemed homosexuality incompatible with military life. This legislation was later modified by the Clinton Administration.
In 1999, Biden voted in favor of the Defense of Marriage Act prohibiting the US government from recognizing same sex marriage. This was later ruled unconstitutional.
As a member of the Democratic Party during the period from 1971 through 1977, Biden opposed school busing and desegregation efforts supported by Democratic Senator Robert W. Byrd (D-WV).
Biden voted against the use of force to drive Iraq out of Kuwait.
He wrote the 1994 Violent Crime Control and Law Enforcement Act which ultimately hardened federal prison sentences disproportionately incarcerating black and brown individuals.

Based on Biden’s existing mental challenges and National Democratic Party Campaign Strategies, it is reasonable to assume that Kamala Harris could assume the presidency sometime during the first four years.
Here are some issues to consider if she were to assume the position of the presidency.
Many news outlets and others have made the point that Kamala is more liberal than Bernie Sanders (a selfprofessed leftist Democratic-Socialist.
Her voting record in the Senate is one of the most liberal in the last 3 years.
