Christ warned his disciples that there would be a lot of negatives about following his example of loving His Word, trying to do the right thing, and he left his example near the cross by blessing his haters and loving his enemies. He even gave them some credit when he said "they know not what they do." as they nailed his hands and ankles to the cross and running him through with a lance. I'm not sure that applies here. When I was young, I got sucked into a cult for a few weeks who decided everybody else except themselves did not love God as much as they did, and because I decided to go back to the church of my parents', the woman accused me falsely of having some kind of a relationship with her husband. I was stunned, because I thought of them as my sisters and brothers in the Lord. I told her that was not true, but I then realized what a hoax some people make of their beliefs, and they cannot see them in any other light than being first in line with God. The woman lied to herself, and I decided that I did the right thing by worshiping with friends and family that I loved, who also loved God, but they didn't present themselves to others as the only people God really loved. A lot of people go down that road of "God loves me more than you." and there's nothing you can do but to--as the song says-- take it to the Lord in prayer. I see people criticizing Churches they don't attend as demons every day. I read some time ago that Christ had disciples who were deeply disturbed that people they didn't know were preaching Christ's words in their own community, and they thought it was blasphemy. Christ told them that there would be many people preaching for him, and not to be overly concerned that they weren't their teachers, because there is nothing wrong with talking about Jesus and his wonderful Word. The Master himself allowed people to preach his words and bless him. I think the disciples caught on, but some things about life is a journey, not a destination. Nothing makes a better contemporary case for that than the Beatles song, "Let it Be.." And I learned that people who think everyone is going to hell but themselves have a lot to learn, because that accusation against me was a lie back then, and still is a lie. I loved my husband in that way, and nobody else for 44 years and going forward. I loved him because even though he didn't ever initiate speeches about the Bible or religion, everything he said or did defined what is written in the Bible. I learned from him you don't have to push minutia that is written with your mouth. Your actual deeds can be according to what Christ actually spoke of. I have never met anyone like my late husband who was adored by people for his good and thoughtful deeds and his sense of humor that cheered people up.
Thank you, ding, for your kindness to me. My grandfather knew the Bible in a very positive light. He taught his fellow Christians at church all he could about the Bible, and when I was 14, he requested that I stay with the family's church. And once I was free from the lady who lied about me to my face, I returned to the family church and still love the precepts of the Bible, both New and Old Testaments having done what I could to please grandpa by teaching children in the family church how to read the Bible, remember scriptures, and enjoying God's love that never ends when we follow the precepts in the scriptures. It's a big book, and it is a blessing to read in it frequently.
