If Trump Makes it Official Policy not to Defend Countries that Don't Pay their Share, what do You Imagine the Outcome will be?

Do any of you seriously believe that what will happen is that Russia will look at this list of countries by % GDP Spent on defense:

and immediately invade them, starting at the bottom of the list? That is seriously what you think will happen?

You think that will be the outcome, because the nations that are spending less will stubbornly refuse to increase their spending, and in fact would prefer a Russian invasion to giving into the Bad Orange Man? That is your real prediction of what will happen?

It won't. Of course not. Unless you are a complete idiot, you know that.

First of all because the Ruskies won't know whether Trump is bluffing or not. He talks out of his ass a lot, which gives his critics ammunition*, but also confuses friend and foe alike, putting the U.S. in better bargaining positions.

The deadbeat nations also won't know whether he is bluffing or not. So they will have the incentive to start spending more.

Canada spends 1.38%? Man that is bullcorn! Rich as they are, and they just want Uncle Sam to protect them, while they spend their money on bilingual signs and pamphlets explaining why bacon is really round?

To heck with that!

I Imagine a lot of people will start ponying up their fair share real quick.

Well, it's not exactly like churning out Toyota Corollas.
Well they managed to push out a lot more armor than that in WW-2.

Hell they managed to make 802 Panzers of different types in 1945 when they were getting their ass handed to them every day by the 8th AF and by the RAF's Bomber Command every night.

Maybe they need some "aerial incentive" to get them moving. ;)

It's a nothing burger... Trump never did anything when he was in office about it for the years there, but mouth off like a child.....making noise so his followers have their daily bedtime story.... Of him being a super hero or savior and lord.

The only reason he brought it up again was to signal to Putin that he's got Putin's back if elected,

and most important it was saying....

PUTIN.....you need to help me, get elected again, like you did in 2016....and I will reward you!

Or maybe they should have kept churning out the high end Pz IVs and original Pz VIs, while they worked out the Panther bugs.

Countries don't pay NATO and the United States does not control the budgets of other sovereign nations.
You are half right. Member nations do contribute to a NATO common fund but is a small amount compared to defense spending by the member nations.

Nope. Russia will continue with the break away countries, then go after the rest of NATO with DJT approval, taking the planet to another WWIII, with the US sitting out, until too late to avoid massive US Troop loss of life having to re-invade the continent, like last time. No lesson learned, and bringing in the Nuclear threat. Donny's friends in Moscow are either wanting to place, or have already placed nuclear weapons in orbit. I assume with Donny's approval, as he approves any move by a strongman country.

Russia couldn't beat the Ukraine.

The EU could defeat Russia right now with ease.

Also, Trump and his supporters aren't looking at NATO spending with any kind of objectivity at all.

The US spends loads on military spending, but it's not going towards NATO in any way.

The US military budget for 2022 was $715 billion.

$158 billion of this was the wages.

Wages are one of those things that can be higher or lower depending on a lot of factors.

$8.8 billion was on medicare. Something a lot of countries might not do for their personnel, because they will have a better healthcare system which is run by the country in the first place.

$10 billion was military construction. Perhaps these other countries don't need to go around the world constructing military bases.

$279 billion was spend on maintenance and operation. Most of these countries won't need to spend anywhere near as much as they don't deploy to anywhere near as many places.

Much of this isn't going towards NATO, it's going to wars other wars the US is involved in.

Nope, they'll pony up what they owe. Just another reason President Putin prefers President Biden to President Trump.

I'm completely done with the freeloaders, and ESPECIALLY done with them bragging about their generous welfare/benefit programs that they can only afford BECAUSE we are their defacto military.

Shut up and pay up.

how do they pay up? Isn't the request for each country to spend at least 2% of their year!y spending budget, on their own defense budget? Or is it each country has to put 2% in to some sort of fund solely for NATO?

So, they will spend money in their budget for their own country's defense spending of 2%. How is that paying up to NATO?
